Not a quality tour.
If you are used to private or high quality tours do not book this. An old van, multiple nationalities and therefore commentary. The itinerary stated by the operator has the sledge toboggan at the end of the tour. Unfortunately this was switched to immediately on pick up arriving before 9am. Sledging down a road with cars is not what a reasonable human wants directly after breakfast. Following the sledge we left the tour and paid for a taxi back to the hotel. Perfect tour for some, definitely not for us.
Response from the operator: Dear Guests Right from the beginning you were not happy. You had no intension of doing the nuns valley or following the program said yourself nuns valley does not interest us. You were the last guests so you had to sit the bus seperatlely, i had to speak english and spanish and you had an issue with that. For your information the taboggan since Corona is done in the morning to avoid queues and waiting for 1 to 2 hours. You should have written on your review that your plan was only to stay in Monte, visit the gardens and take the cable car down. You had no intension of doing the nuns valley. So said you stayed in Monte did the sledge ride and continued with the program you had arranged right from the beginning. We cannot change a program that has already been done to satisfy all the wishes of our guests. The van was not a VIP Van that you expected. VIP Vans are only for private tours not for Shared tours.

Toboggan ride in Madeira
Great fun activity, well organised and timed well to beat the crowds from the cruise ship in port. Lots of good view points

Not worth money, didn’t see any views
To be honest, this trip would’ve been better if it didn’t rain so hard the previous night because the whole thing was about the views and we couldn’t see a thing because of thick mist everywhere also felt we were a bit herded into souvenir shops. We were also told to wait by the Pharmacist for a pick up keep in mind we never been to this place before so we were just acting on what we was told the driver/Guide was very rude by saying we were not there when we was ! and on time.
Response from the operator: Dear Guests Sometimes i waste time responding to certain reviews. 1. Bad review because of the weather? No views you had sun and nice views in the villages it only rained a little. The sledge ride went down without any problem. 2. Finish your review dont leave it half way. Rude driver? He went past the meeting point 2 and you having coffee while the others were waiting for you in the bus delaying the other pick ups. The office had to make an international call for you to meet the driver. Yes you found the meeting point but decided to have coffee and leave all the others waiting. Should the driver be happy with you? Neither are we after this lying review. Reviews like these should never be allowed.

A quick 4 hours tour that gives different experience of Madeira. .
We had a lively tour guide/driver with good sense of humor. He drove safely in those narrow winding streets in villages. This tour gave us a different experience that Madeira has to offer.

Why this scores 59
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride.: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride. cost?
+
Prices start at $16 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride. take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride. worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride.?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride. suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride.?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Nuns Valley/Monte with sledge ride. start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
