    About this experience

We invite you to explore some of the most isolated places on the island, without straying too far from Funchal. As you climb the narrow streets and alleys from Estreito de Câmara de Lobos to Fajã das Galinhas, you will be able to witness some of the characteristics that make Madeiran agriculture a unique experience. From the Boca dos Namorados viewpoint you can see the geographical grandeur of this island, while admiring the view over the Curral das Freiras. This rugged valley surrounded by vertical mountains, served as a refuge for many nuns during the most difficult time in Funchal's history. At Cabo Girão, walk on a glass platform suspended 500 meters above the ocean. This Seacliff is one of the highest in the world and from it you can see Funchal as well as the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. This small village is a must-see stop before returning to the hotel, as its beauty and charm did not go unnoticed by some of the most important figures of the 20th century.

    4×4 jeep tour

We had an unforgettable experience with Madeira Mountain Expeditions, and our guide José Dinarte made it truly exceptional. He was professional, friendly, courteous, and punctual throughout the entire tour, and his passion for Madeira was evident in everything he shared. Instead of just showing us the usual tourist spots, he guided us to charming, remote villages and breathtaking mountain areas that can only be reached by 4x4. He shared fascinating local stories and gave us a genuine insight into the traditions, culture, and daily lives of the people who live in these beautiful mountains. It was an authentic side of Madeira that we would never have discovered on our own. Driving through the vineyards and ending the day with a Madeira wine tasting was the perfect finishing touch. Although our stay on the island was far too short, this experience made us fall even more in love with Madeira. The value for money was outstanding, and we will definitely be back to explore more of the island with Madeira Mountain Expeditions. Highly recommended!

    Excellent !

Excellent from pick up to finish. Tour guide was excellent, funny, witty and an excellent guide. Was so worth the money and experience, would 100% recommend this firm. All very professional, kind and could not do enough for us. Would certainly do this again when in Madeira ! Go for it - it's so much fun!

An exhilarating and exciting experience with some lovely stops at various view points.

We did a half day Mountain Expedition trip on and off road with Antonio and had a terrific experience! Antonio was a very competent driver and was full of knowledge about the surrounding area and history of the island. Going up all those steep hills was quite an experience not to mention the off roading but we were in very capable hands which made it all an extremely enjoyable and exciting experience. Thoroughly recommend the trip!

Lots of fun, Antonio was very informative and helpful. Off road section was fun, kids especially enjoyed standing part. Stopped at a great bar for local drinks.

    Excellent Tour

I highly recommend Madeira Expeditions. Victor was very professional guide and made us feel safe every part of the journey up to the top and back down the mountains. He explained ingredients in Poncho and the process making it. We also able to sample some rum and wine. He gave us ample amount of time to explore on our stops. Beautiful scenery and a good time had by all! 😎

Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $56 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 50 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Nun's Valley & Sea Cliff - Half Day - Shared Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

    +

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
