Definitely worth a visit
Really interesting and fun boat trip, full of water monitors, baby crocodiles and a wide selection of colourful birds. Informative and friendly guide, with a comfortable pick-up and drop-off from the hotel.

Magnificent trip in the lagoon
Very quick check-in, by arriving 30 minutes early the driver was able to move our trip in the lagoon up, the guides were also great

Lots of beautiful birds and wildlife on a serene tour of the waterways
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Muthurajawela waterways. Our driver Kevin picked us up promptly from our hotel in his modern, comfortable car and we had a very relaxed experience with him driving us to and from the tour. On the boat our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the birds and other wildlife we saw in the canal and on the lagoon. She and our boat driver spotted dozens of different birds, water monitors and a baby crocodile and we were able to get really close to them without disturbing them. The waterways are very peaceful and serene and we're so glad we had this experience while we were in Negombo.

Fabulous trip to see local wildlife
We had a fantastic time on this trip, being met at our hotel and talked through the drive to the wetlands. Our driver was so friendly and welcoming and his car comfortable with ac. At the visitor centre we met our guide and boat driver and were handed life jackets. As we motored down the Dutch canal the guide showed us so many birds and other wildlife that we would never have seen on our own and they were more than happy to manoeuvre the boat so we could try to get a better photo. We then went into the lagoon and into the wetlands finding many more species before returning to the visitor centre where our driver was waiting. Thoroughly recommended if you have a few hours spare and enjoy wildlife.

Amazing wildlife and great service
We booked the morning of and were picked up from the hotel within an hour. The boat tour was amazing and we saw lizards, crocodiles and many birds. The guides were great, they were very good at spotting animals and getting us in close. The driver was very friendly and even got us some local food on the way. Would definitely recommend!

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Colombo.
How much does Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Colombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Colombo is not rushed.
Is Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Colombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Colombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Colombo and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Muthurajawela Wetlands: Scenic Boat Ride & Birdwatching Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Colombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Colombo?
+
On Outty we rank every Colombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Flexi dates on all 5 to 7 days packages for car and English speaking driver, Sri Lanka Personal Tour Driver in private vehicle, 08 Nights in Magical Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Colombo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Colombo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
