The Lemosho Route is relatively new. It starts on the Western side of Mount Kilimanjaro at the Londorossi Gate and was introduced as an alternative to the Shira Route which begins at a higher, more challenging altitude. The Londorossi Gate is a fair drive from the town of Moshi, and considerably further from Arusha. At the gate, you will register with the authorities before being driven a further 12km to the starting point. The western side of Kilimanjaro is still very wild and you may get lucky and spot large antelope, buffalo and maybe even elephant. The Lemosho Route joins the Machame Route at Lava Tower and heads down towards Barranco Valley via the Southern Circuit (see map below). As with the Machame Route, Lemosho trekkers need to transverse the Barranco Wall and then summit from Barafu Camp. The descent is via the Mweka route.

Safety, Care, and an Unbeatable Team — Highly Recommend

The most important thing about scaling a mountain is knowing that safety comes first. I've climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro three times now, and every time I've gone with Intrepid Treks and Safaris, who offer far more value than you pay for. The preparation, the safety checks, the daily check-ins, the diet — everything from day one to summit day, and all the way back to our final lunch before saying goodbye — was top-notch. We had the best team out there: our attentive, encouraging guide Baraka; our patient, kind, detail-oriented waiter Jared; our chef; and our porters — every single one of them went above and beyond. I can't wait for our next trip with Intrepid Treks and Safaris. If you're looking for a company that takes care of you from the first step to the last, I highly recommend them.

Our experience with Intrepid Travel on our Mount Kilimanjaro hike was truly exceptional. From start to finish, they took great care of our needs and tailored the tour to suit us perfectly. The support from the guides was instrumental in helping us reach the summit. We couldn’t have done it without them. The entire team, including the porters, cook, and guides, created an unforgettable experience. Their dedication, professionalism, and warmth made the journey not only successful but also deeply enjoyable. The food and service were outstanding, far exceeding our expectations. I can’t recommend Intrepid Travel highly enough. They made our Kilimanjaro adventure one to remember for a lifetime.

    Awesome Mt Kilimanjaro!

Our original plan was to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in January 2019, but we had to postpone our trip for family health reasons and Intrepid Explorer Tanzania was able to defer our trip for more than a year at no cost. Thanks Wence! We were a party of two guys in good physical shape. We climbed the mountain on the Lemosho route with a party of 2 guides and 10 porters. The guides, Shafi and Nuru, tailored the pace based on our ability, so we completed the climb in 6 days. The guides were knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the mountain, it's flora and fauna. On the assent morning, they timed our start so that we would arrive at the summit at dawn, it was well planned and implemented. They hiked with us at all times and were engaging and interesting companions. The porters worked hard to break and set-up camp three times a day, the food was surprisingly good considering everything was carried by hand on the mountain. Would consider using ear plugs as some of larger camps were noisy at night. I also recommend paying for a private toilet! Overall, it was a great experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Intrepid Explorer Tanzania for organizing a climb of Mt Kilimanjaro!

Response from the operator: Thank you for the kind words, Tony! We’re so happy your visit at Tanzania-Kilimanjaro went so smoothly. Thank you so much for choosing us as a company.Kindly sharing your experience to your friends. We’d love to continue providing great service to awesome patients like you. Thanks. Wence!

Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Moshi.

How much does Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route cost?

    +

Prices start at $2,466 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Moshi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route take?

    +

Plan for about 168 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Moshi is not rushed.

Is Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Moshi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 168-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Moshi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Moshi and add a light layer if any part of the 168-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 7-Days: Lemosho Route start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Moshi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Moshi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Moshi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Materuni Waterfall, Coffee Tour and Picnic Hot Lunch, Materuni Waterfall and Coffee Plantation Half Day Tour, Kilimanjaro climb, Machame Route (7-day). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Moshi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Moshi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
