Mount Ainos Private Hiking and Cultural Tour of Kefalonia

The private Mt. Ainos hiking Tour was absolutely wonderful! Panos was a wonderful guide! He had intimate knowledge of mount Ainos, the history of the island, the monestary we visited for the patron St. of the island and answered every question we had! We started with the Sacred Monestary of Agios Gerasimos of Kefalonia, Penos explained what the saint was known for on the island. Explained the history of the monestary and then let us explore the grounds. We were lucky enough to see a blessing of the saint and absolutely loved how beautiful the grounds were. The large Sikamore trees that were planted by the saint that still stand were jaw dropping! After we thoroughly explored to our hearts content, we headed off to the Mountain. We drove up a ways parked and did about a 45min hike to the summit. Penos knew so much about the mountain, the flora, the maintenance of the handrails, and even the mythological relevance of the mountain, as well as the mountains history, and even what is protected about the mountain. We stood at the peak and soaked in the views, took pictures, and ejoyed how much cooler it is on top of Ainos 😅, we made it back down in pretty good time and then headed off for some wine tasting at a local Vinyard. The Vinyard was phenomenal, we found a favorite wine and wound up getting a bottle, plus some moonshine made from rebola grapes as well!! Penos encouraged us to take all the time we wanted, picked us up at our hotel and made sure we were dropped off safe and sound! Highly recommend and will 100% book with them again! See you guys next time! Efharisto 🖤

An Amazing Experience

My wife and I did the hiking and cultural tour with Dimitris and had an amazing time! The beautiful views from Mount Ainos were a highlight but the whole day was amazing! Dimitris was super knowledgeable, very fun and took some fantastic photos for us. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kefalonia.

A very special, personalised, private tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide

We had a wonderful day out full of adventure, amazing sights, and beautiful experiences. We were picked up from our villa by a lovely man called Dimitris and travelled in a spacious, air-conditioned car for the day. From the get-go, Dimitris was a fountain of knowledge telling us funny stories as well as giving us insightful historical background to the sights we were seeing. Firstly, we went to the Sacred Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, which was a moving and wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to witness the unveiling of the saint, and be part of a very special ritual. We visited his "hermit" cave, and Dimitris explained the history and beliefs. We felt very privileged to be part of it. Next, we drove up Mount Ainos - that was spectacular, seeing parts of the island we never knew existed. The sights were incredible, and what a relaxing way to get to the top of a mountain! We then we moved on to the "ghost village" of Old Vlachata - ruined by the earthquake of 1953, which was full of history and life (no one died here but everyone relocated meaning it was left as a ruin). It was magical, and Dimitris knew so much about how life would have been before the earthquake in a village like this one. It was fascinating. Finally we were driven to a vineyard for wine tasting, which was a superb way to finish a wonderful day out. Kefalonian wine is amazing. Throughout, Dimitris was willing to adapt our route and schedule to make the day perfect for us, he took lots of photos of us too, ensuring we had great mementos of a very special day. I couldn't recommend this highly personalised tour enough.

Mount Ainos – breathtaking views and an exceptional guide

We booked the private Mount Ainos hike specifically to focus on the mountain itself, and Panos delivered exactly what we hoped for and more. He was an outstanding guide – good-humoured, calm, friendly, and patient with all of our (many!) questions. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was incredible, and it was obvious how proud he is to be Kefalonian and how deeply connected he is to the mountain. We felt safe the entire time, and Panos chose the best routes to make the most of the scenery and the experience. The views from the summit were absolutely breathtaking – you can see Zakynthos, Ithaca, the mainland, and the full beauty of Kefalonia spread out beneath you. So many tours on the island focus on the same well-known spots, which are all lovely, but Mount Ainos often gets overlooked. It shouldn’t. This hike was genuinely the highlight of our holiday, and I would recommend it to anyone. Put this tour at the top of your list.

Response from the operator: We appreciate your fantastic review! The Mount Ainos Private Hiking Tour in Kefalonia is designed to reveal the island’s hidden natural beauty and panoramic views. Guests love the safe, guided exploration and authentic local insights—perfect for a memorable hiking adventure in Kefalonia.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
