Although I was never able to get to monteverde due to an unrelated shuttle problem (side note be wary of Bookaway), the guide was very helpful and responsive when I informed them of the situation, helping me get an immediate refund. Super friendly and helpful.

You definitely need a guide for this trip as they know where and what to look for. Bring water and a waterproof jacket as it gets cool and damp. Guides have scopes to help you spot the wildlife and will help you take the best pictures.

What an evening!
Firstly, you have to do this trip with a guide. They know exactly what to look for to find the widlife, are very knowledgable, and are in contact with the other tours when different animals are found in the park. We did the 6-8PM session and saw sloths, scorpions, snakes, birds. It was amazing and we learnt so much from our brilliant guide, Jason. Well worth the money and effort. Would definitely do it again.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We completely agree—having an expert guide like Jason makes all the difference when it comes to spotting nocturnal wildlife. We are thrilled you had such a memorable 6–8 PM tour and got to see sloths, scorpions, snakes, and birds! Your kind words mean the world to Jason and the whole team. We’d love to welcome you back for another adventure anytime!

Unique experience for nature enthousiasts
Amazing experience. I would highly recommend it. Very small group. We saw so many animals. Jason was fantastic. The highlight of our tour was a margay. But even without it it was a unique experience.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the fantastic review! I’m thrilled to hear you had such an amazing experience. Keeping group sizes small is really important to us so everyone gets an intimate, immersive look at the forest. Spotting a margay is always a special, unforgettable rare sight, but I’m so glad you enjoyed the overall journey and atmosphere just as much. It was a absolute pleasure guiding you, and I truly appreciate the high recommendation! Hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future!

Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.
How much does Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $28 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.
Is Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 50 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour?
+
Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puntarenas can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puntarenas and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Monteverde Night Walk: Guided Wildlife Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puntarenas within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?
+
On Outty we rank every Puntarenas experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tortuga Island Tour with Costa Cat, 3 Hour ATV Medium Waterfall Tour (Swimmable Pool), Small Group Night Walking Tour in Monteverde. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puntarenas?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
