Not just a hike, Mismaloya is a lifetime adventure
I can’t say enough positive things about Curiel. He’s the owner of this business and currently is the only guide. We did the Mismaloya Waterfall hike on our first day of our trip and it was the highlight of my week. I went during the rainy season which I’m a fan of the jungle. Just prepare for the humidity and heat. So a lot of water and electrolytes as it’s not an easy short hike but I was well aware of that. Curiel brought snacks, electrolytes to share, took us to a small local restaurant in the mountains before a hike for some of the best birria I have ever had. The breakfast was paid for by Curiel. He took on the hike with just my wife and I with 1 day notice. So he happened to be open the day I was available and made an amazing adventure. Curiel is very knowledgeable about the plants, birds, and wildlife in general. He also has an amazing personality and is very friendly and outgoing. I will definitely only be booking with Curiel for my future hikes.

More Than a Hike—An Unforgettable Experience
I had an incredible experience hiking with Curiel. We explored the Mismaloya area, and it was absolutely breathtaking. We hiked through the mountains, saw several waterfalls, and swam in two of them. The scenery was spectacular—lush green mountains in every direction, crystal-clear water, and the kind of beauty that makes you slow down and appreciate the world around you. It was the perfect escape from the city. I left feeling deeply connected to Mother Earth, the universe, and myself. What made the experience even better was Curiel. He wasn't just a guide—he was knowledgeable, kind, funny, and genuinely passionate about nature. Along the way, he pointed out different plants, birds, insects, and other wildlife that I never would have noticed on my own. He turned a beautiful hike into an educational and immersive experience. Most importantly, I felt safe in every way. Physically, he was incredibly attentive, pointing out poisonous plants to avoid, showing me the safest way to climb steep sections, and making sure I always had secure footing. Emotionally, I felt completely at ease. He has a calm, grounded presence that allowed me to relax and simply enjoy being out in nature. If you're looking for more than just a hike—if you want an experience that leaves you feeling inspired, connected, and well taken care of—I couldn't recommend Curiel more highly. It was one of the highlights of my time in Puerto Vallarta.

Once In A Lifetime Experience With Curiel
We had an absolutely incredible experience with Curiel from Curiel Experiences 6-1-2026. He guided us on an approximately 8-mile hike through Mexico backcountry, navigating moderate to difficult unmarked trails that led to three breathtaking waterfalls. Without Curiel's patience, experience, and expertise, this hike would have been impossible for us to complete safely. As an avid backcountry hiker who has thru-hiked 1,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail and spent years exploring the rugged and challenging coastline and mountains of Hawaii's Big Island, with well over 2,000 miles of hiking under my belt, I can confidently say that I never could have navigated this route without Curiel's guidance and local knowledge. My fiancé has balance issues, and Curiel was exceptional every step of the way. He never became impatient, never rushed him, and never expected him to move beyond his comfort or skill level. Instead, he provided encouragement, guidance, and support throughout the entire journey, making the hike enjoyable and accessible for both of us. What truly sets Curiel apart is his deep love for Mexico, its flora, fauna, and natural beauty. His knowledge and passion transformed what could have been just a hike into an immersive experience. Listening to him share stories about the area, the wildlife, and the local environment created a deeper connection to both our guide and the landscape around us. The miles seemed to pass much faster despite the challenging terrain and intense heat. The experience began with Curiel picking us up in his comfortable vehicle and taking us to a local restaurant for breakfast before the hike. We loved starting the day at a place he personally recommended and getting a glimpse of the countryside through his eyes before we even hit the trail. Another thing we greatly appreciated was that Curiel took photos of us throughout the entire adventure. Instead of worrying about stopping to capture moments ourselves, we were able to stay present and enjoy the experience. Thanks to him, we now have wonderful photos and memories from the hike that we will treasure for years to come. One of the highlights of the day was the final waterfall. After the challenging hike to reach it, Curiel never made us feel rushed. He patiently gave us all the time we wanted to swim, relax, take in the scenery, and fully enjoy the experience. His laid-back approach allowed us to appreciate the beauty of the waterfall and create memories that will stay with us forever. Throughout the entire excursion, we felt both safe and challenged—a perfect combination for an adventure like this. If you're looking for a memorable experience with a knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely caring guide, look no further. Don't hesitate to book with Curiel. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will remember forever. Mahalo nui loa, Curiel! Thank you for sharing your piece of Mexico with us.

Great full-day hike with a great guide!
We had a great time! It was pretty warm during the hike but Curiel watched our pace and took plenty of water/snack breaks and short breaks to teach us about various plants and animals. We got to try several edible flowers, fruits, and berries. The waterfalls were beautiful and Curiel took lots of pictures and videos of us that he shared with us at the end for no additional cost. Curiel was very upbeat, energetic, and pleasant throughout the tour and was mindful/helpful with those who needed a little extra assistance through the river crossings/steeper sections. We would definitely recommend this tour for those who want to get off the beaten path and enjoy some spectacular waterfalls!

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.
How much does Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour cost?
+
Prices start at $2300 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.
Is Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 36 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mismaloya Waterfalls and Mountain Hike. Full-Day tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
