Only go if weather is pristine all day and no seaweed that time of year

We booked thru the representative at our hotel (Riu Palace Rivera Maya). Since there is a lot of sargassum right now we couldn’t enjoy the beach so I wanted to go snorkeling away from the hotel. When we asked about the seaweed we were assured that because it’s an inlet there won’t be much seaweed. The cenote and cave which were both beautiful but a little boring because we did not receive much information about the wildlife or history of the area. An opportunity for our guide to improve. I overhead other guides providing more info to their groups. The lunch included was decent. And it was nice the groups were small. The last stop was the ocean inlet. A storm started on the way and didn’t let up. When we arrived our tour guide told us it will be hard to snorkel due to rain and apparently a lot of sargassum (she then showed us a video of the sargassum covering the entire inlet). She gave us the option to go look but of course no one wanted to do that. I wish she would have called ahead and gave us that option prior to driving over. We would have opted to head back to our resort instead of wasting 1.5 hour in the shuttle. We were then required to sign a form and write down why we chose not to do the snorkel part and that no refund would be given. Of course the “no refund” part was mentioned after we competed the form. I understand that weather is out of the companies control but they can absolutely improve on their communication and if a service you paid for wasn’t received, a partial refund should be issued.

Response from the operator: Dear jessxmas, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your tour. We're glad to hear you found the cenote and cave beautiful, and that you appreciated the small group size and the included lunch. We sincerely apologize for the parts of your experience that fell short. Regarding the sargassum, we understand you were told the inlet would have little seaweed, and we're sorry that assurance did not match what you found on site; this is valuable feedback and we are reviewing how this information is communicated to guests booking through hotel representatives. We also regret that your guide did not share more detail about the local wildlife and history during the cenote and cave portion, an area we will reinforce in our guide training. We are especially sorry about how the ocean inlet stop was handled. The storm and sargassum conditions should have been assessed and communicated before and any relevant policies should have been made clear before the paperwork was signed, not after. This does not reflect the communication standard we expect from our team, and we have already shared your comments with our operations team for review. Should you wish to share any additional details or would like assistance with a future reservation, it would be our pleasure to assist you at customerservice2@aventurasmayas.com. Sincerely, Customer Service Management.

Rushed dissapointing experience

Not worth the money. Rushed experience and small area of exploration. Not efficent or logical set up. Time management is terrible. Basically you are first brought to an open cenote where tou line up to first jump from a high level, then ushered to a hanging ziplone where you are rushed to go because another group is waiting behind you. Then you are told you have a bit of time to explore a very small cenote, where your group of 12 and 2 other groups of 12 all squish into a little area to snorkle. Then you are asked to keep your snorkle only, remove your life vest and walk to the next area where you go into a cave. It's basically a short distance into a cave but you still have the daylight visible. It's not an immersive experiencw. But first, put a new life vest on in this section. You have 15 mins.... they rush you through pictures asking you to pose in the same 3 random pose options so they can sell them to you later. Then once done, you leave everything except your snorkle. Hold it with you while you lunch which was a small meal for about 15 mins. No time to digest... then hip back on a bus to tje next destination. The lagoon. 30 mins later you arrive. New life jacket back on, new mask and mandatory flippers. You think you have this gian lagoon to explore. Nope. Small section that changes when new groups show up. 20 mins here.... no major exploration. Water wasn't clean feeling. Very rushed excursion and not in depth. Dissapointing.

Response from the operator: Dear Jace23_11, We sincerely regret that your experience did not reflect the standard of service we strive for. Please accept our heartfelt apology on behalf of the entire team. We have already shared your feedback with the relevant team for a closer review. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and offer you the experience you deserve. Sincerely, Customer Service Management.

Fabulous excursion - a MUST do!

Hermon picked us up at our resort, being our driver and tour guide. He was very personable and knowledgeable of the areas and our excursion. This was a small group tour - only 9 people. Our first stop was to snorkel in an ocean inlet. The water was nice and calm - very relaxing experience. The next stop was to a cenote. Wow - the crystal clear water was amazing. Great snorkeling at this location. There was also a deeper area to zipline or dive into the cenote. The final location was walking distant from the cenote - it was an underground river in a cave. Another stunning snorkeling location. We ended the trip with a delicious lunch of tacos and nachos. It was such a great experience and we would definitely recommend this trip and Herman to all.

Response from the operator: Dear CCCofOhio13, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience on Mayan Adventure tour. We're delighted to know you enjoyed all the activities and also our buffet. It will be a privilege to share your kind words with Hermon and the whole team; feedback like yours is what drives us to keep improving. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon for your next adventure in the Riviera Maya. Sincerely, Customer Service Management.

Doing it again

This excursion was amazing. Our guide Octavio is a very personable, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. I know there is other great guides, however, I would love to be in his group again. Yes, it was so great we are going to do it again next time we are here. So like most all people, I really enjoy small groups and avoid large crowds. They have this running like a well oiled machine with really good timing and rotation of groups. Our guide picked us up and dropped us off as well as the other people in the van. It was nice to have one guide throughout the entire day. This consists of a several different locations and every one was just breathtaking. Even with all the jumping and splashing at the open Cenote. Next was the cave, it was mind-blowing being in a place millions of years old. Thinking about the rituals and traditions that has happened all around here dating back to the Mayans. Seeing the beauty of nature and of wildlife. They served lunch which was absolutely delicious. My wife has Celiacs (real Celiacs and not optional gluten free like we have heard from people ordering food in the past) there was no concern, she was able to eat everything that they had. We went on to another location for snorkeling with fish and other water wildlife there. Once again, Our guide was knowledgeable in all the fish that we might see and is an amazing diver himself. I was amazed with his abilities in the water. There was little shopping places at each location. There was no pressure sales at any of these locations. (I have been places where it was constant pressure to buy something). They did ask about buying photos and I am glad we did, we received 99 photos for less than 15 U.S Dollars. I believe that is a great deal. They supplied all the safety gear and it was visibly clear they cleaned them after each use. We were picked up a little before 8 am and we were back around 3pm. It was perfect.
