    What you'll see and do

    1. The Flying Horses Carousel is a totally unique landmark. It's the oldest operating platform carousel in the country, having been built in 1876. In the early days, the horses on this ride sported real horse hair! The carousel is still in operation today, though it has been updated for comfort and safety. The tour is over 13.5 miles long, with more than 38 audio stories, and takes about 2-3 hours to complete. New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.

      10 minutes here

    2. The Cottage Museum is a one-of-a-kind museum and gift shop offering more information about the origins of the Gingerbread Houses and the people who built them. Here, you'll also find all kinds of souvenirs. Whether you're in the market for sterling silver charms, toys, calendars, or postcards, this combination museum and gift shop has you covered.

      Pass by without stopping

    3. Inkwell Beach, situated on the eastern side of Oak Bluffs, is a small and pretty beach with a bit of an unsavory past. In the early to mid 1900s, Martha's Vineyard beaches were fully segregated. As a result, beaches like this one were underfunded and generally left in disrepair by local authorities. Today, however, all of that has changed.

      10 minutes here

    4. As you pass the Caroline Tuthill Wildlife Preserve, you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for any of the more than 300 species of bird which can be found on the Vineyard. This preserve is also home to tons of local flora, including bountiful wildfowers of all sorts. Beyond it, you'll also head about the whaling industry and how it once defined the island.

      10 minutes here

    5. Chappaquiddick Island, just off the coast of Edgartown's downtown, gets its name from the Wampanoag tribe. In their language, Chappaquiddick means "separated island." And yes, that does mean that its name is technically "Separated Island Island"!

      10 minutes here

    6. Finally, you'll arrive at South Beach. This long strip of sand is basically two beaches in one, with the placid Katama Bay on one side and the dramatic Atlantic Ocean surf on the other. Whether you want to lounge on the sand, catch some surf, or just break out the binoculars and search for shore birds, this is the beach for you. Your tour concludes here, though there are more optional stops around the island if you want to keep the adventure going.

      10 minutes here

    7. Passing through Edgartown's Historic District is a truly lovely experience. Wonderfully preserved houses from the 1800s flank the street, while cute shops and restaurants wait on every corner. As you drive, you'll also get a glimpse into how the town got its start, its name, and the role that whaling played in the development of it all.

      10 minutes here

    8. Lighthouse Beach

On Lighthouse Beach, you'll enjoy a pristine sandy beach, gentle surf, and a picture-perfect New England lighthouse. It's a great spot to pause, picnic, and snap that perfect photo from your trip. While you're here, you'll also get a bit of background on that lighthouse.

    Not helpful!

The app is very confusing and not helpful. It failed to discuss what we were seeing and does not work well with the route we traveled.

Response from the operator: Sonja, I’m sorry to hear the app felt confusing. Please share what was unclear so I can continue improving the experience. Once the tour is redeemed and downloaded in advance, you simply need to launch the app at the starting point and follow the provided route, as the audio is triggered by GPS along that path. It sounds like the route may not have been followed, which can affect how the narration plays. I’m available daily from 9 AM to 6 PM EST and would be happy to help you get the most out of the tour or troubleshoot any issues you experienced.

    Ap Sucked

The ap kept going ahead of us. Didn't allow for speed limits, missed turns, etc. (Streets are poorly marked in MV). Very disappointed in it.

Response from the operator: Scott, I’m sorry to hear that my Martha’s Vineyard GPS Driving & Walking Audio Tour didn’t work smoothly for you. The tour is designed to use GPS-triggered narration, so the audio should play based on your location along the route, but I understand how frustrating it must have been if the app seemed to move ahead or if turns were difficult to follow on poorly marked streets. Did you download the tour before starting, follow the suggested route from the starting point, and keep location permissions enabled throughout the drive? If you contact support with your booking details, I’d be happy to look into what happened and help make this right.

Very interesting information! Would have been great if the map synced with Apple play and the in car map. Holding the phone and driving was a little scary at times…

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Martha's Vineyard.

How much does Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Martha's Vineyard usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Martha's Vineyard is not rushed.

Is Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Martha's Vineyard, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Martha's Vineyard can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Martha's Vineyard and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Martha’s Vineyard Self-Guided Driving & Walking Audio Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

    +

Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Martha's Vineyard by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Martha's Vineyard experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include #1 Best 3hr Martha's Vineyard shared Island Tour from Oak Bluffs, Best of Martha's Vineyard 3 hour Full-Island Tour, #1 Best Martha's Vineyard Private Tours for up to 6 people. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Martha's Vineyard?

    +

Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Martha's Vineyard, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Martha's Vineyard?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
