    About this experience

Knockabout Travel takes you to Martha's Vineyard, with this self-paced audio tour of the most popular town on the island. Discover the origin story of how Oak Bluffs developed from its humble beginnings as a religious camp into a summer destination for business moguls, celebrities, and US Presidents. On the tour, we discuss the development of the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, home to the "campground" and the famed gingerbread cottages. Learn how the area around Ocean Park and Circuit Avenue was developed with tourism in mind, and how that conflicted with the original Methodist campers. Did not work. Do not recommend

App did not work. Sent a text first help. No answer. Paid for 4 walking talks on 2 apple and 2 galaxy phones. Kept getting message you had to be on wifi to work. It's a walking tour- no wifi. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Response from the operator: Sorry the tour did not work for you. WiFi or cell signal is not needed once the tour is downloaded. However, if you have not downloaded the tour prior to starting and you have no cell signal, then there is no way to get the data to your phone. While I cannot do anything about your cell coverage, I can refund your money. I cannot see who purchased the tour or when, but you can send me an email at gregg@knockabout.blog with your name so I can look you up and get you your refund. I understand that technology can be finicky at times. However, this tour gets heavy use in the summer with very few complaints compared to the number of downloads. I apologize that it did not work as expected.

    Really bad

The tour would not load!!!¡!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!! I i thought we had it ready to go got the starting spot nothing 😕

Response from the operator: Sorry that you had technical difficulties with the tour. I have refunded your money and you should see it shortly. I'm pretty sure that the tour works fine. Several others used it on this day. From time to time, folks do call me with tech issues and I am almost always able to talk them through how to start the tour. That being said, some issues do arise. Printed directions can be misinterpreted or cell phone service could be sketchy are two potential reasons. In any case, a refund is in order as I am not physically present to guide you through the process.

A Great Tour! Interesting Content at a Fantastic Price!

My wife and I did this recently on a one-day trip to Martha's Vineyard. We had never been before, so we learned quite a bit. We did run into a bit of a snag, and left a message with Gregg, and he called us back within five minutes. A wonderful way to get an introduction to the island, and it was quite easy to stop the tour, and linger at various spots. Key Points: The cell signal on the island can be spotty. DOWNLOAD THE APP (VoiceMap), and the complete tour before you get on the island! (That way, you'll be ready to start your tour as soon as you get off the ferry.) Make sure your phone is fully charged, and you have headphones. All in all, a great tour for a fantastic price!

    Great Intro to Martha’s Vineyard.

Easy to manage audio program. Learned a lot about Martha’s Vineyard that I never knew. Nice, easy walk for my husband who has Parkinson’s.

    Useful and informative

Very useful and informative. It was sensitive enough to our location to notice even the slightest deviations. The information was rich in detail and always had something to offer about each location’s cultural history.

Response from the operator: Thank you for the kind review. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience and hope you had a great time on the island.

How much does Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard Audio Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $13 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Martha's Vineyard usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard Audio Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Martha's Vineyard is not rushed.

Is Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard Audio Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 38 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.2/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Martha's Vineyard, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard Audio Tour?

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard Audio Tour?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Martha's Vineyard can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Martha's Vineyard and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Martha's Vineyard, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
