    What a Wonderful Day

What a wonderful day. Our guide Alvero (darling) was excellent and we couldn't have asked for more. Started with a view point before starting the walk. We were educated about the district and plants along the walk and all questions were answered. The pace of the walk suited everyone in our group. Alvero knew a lot about the local families and their way of life. I can only recommend this walk and its a pleasure to have met the group.

    Disappointing experience with pick up

The actual walk was great. All on the flat and about 6km. The guide was also good and very informative about the flora and fauna, although by the very nature of the Levadas you are walking in single file and if you are at the back you are unable to hear. The reason I have only given it 3 stars is the pick up system. The walk advertises pick up from hotel. However despite staying in a very central hotel we were asked to meet the minibus at a different location. We got there 5 minutes early and then proceeded to wait in the rain for 35 minutes, without shelter, as the bus arrived 30 minutes late! During the 30 minute wait I phoned the tour operator 5 x times before they actally answered the phone. Apparently there was a problem with the pick up at the port!!! As I understood it, if you are not at the pick up point on time, you get left behind and loose your money. Are people of cruise ships more important than the rest of your clients? We then made a 25 minutes detour to pick up a couple from a golf complex. Why weren't they asked to go to a convenient pick up point like us?? As we were then running so late we had to make an additional toilet stop as some poor people before us had then been on the bus over 1.5 hours! After all this the actual walk eventually got under way.

Wonderful levada walk with an expert guide!

Lovely walk, in a beautiful part of Madeira, Susana is an expert guide, not only is she a fun person, but she is multi-lingual, has a deep knowledge of the local flora and fauna, and was very informative. Highly recommend this family-run company!

Excellent way to spend a morning

Lovely walk with a friendly guide. I am sorry that I can’t remember his name, maybe Alvaro? He had an excellent local knowledge and made the walk fun. It was good to see the Mimosa flowers just coming into bloom. The walk ended at a lovely little bar/coffee shop. I really enjoyed the morning.

    Superb half day walk!

What a fantastic walk.-would definitely recommend. The guide Alvaro was fun & very willing to share his knowledge of the country. We met a few locals who Alvaro chatted with & told us about their farming & crops. We had time to take photographs & admire the countryside & the pace of the walk was just right. The cafe at the end gave the group time to chat .Transport was good & safety of us all was taken seriously .

Maroços - Mimosa Valley: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Maroços - Mimosa Valley cost?

    +

Prices start at $41 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Maroços - Mimosa Valley take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Maroços - Mimosa Valley worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Maroços - Mimosa Valley?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Maroços - Mimosa Valley suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Maroços - Mimosa Valley?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Maroços - Mimosa Valley start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

    +

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
