A nice Levada walk especially for beginners.
Levada dos Marocos and Canical (Marocos to Machico.) This is quite an easy 3 hour Levada walk which my wife and I did without a guide, it has very few dangerous drops to worry about but you always have to be careful of course, my wife who’s a little anxious found it a lovely experience. We took a taxi from Funchal (approx € 40) which drove us up to a cafe at the start of the walk where we had a morning coffee before setting off. Basically this is a pleasant meander through mountain village and farming life, lots of different plants, flowers and trees catch your eye along with some nice views, eventually we came to what we thought was the end of the trail where we saw a cafe on our right, it was clearly a good few kilometers to the beach town of Machico in the distance but we decided to walk it anyway, you could order a taxi from the cafe to take you there if too tired. We both thoroughly enjoyed this Levada walk, with no tourists around it was a quite, relatively safe walk and was scenic enough for some good photos, we finished it all off with a nice meal by the beach in Machico.

Fantastic half day tour with Marco
We had the most spectacular half day Levada tour with Marco. We did the tour on our first day there and did some hiking alone thereafter. Marco told us a great deal about the island and also made recommendations for the rest of our stay. He recommended the restaurant Orca on the northwest side of the island it was our favorite meal. The tour included insurance and was very reasonable. The tour was the perfect amount of walking and afterwards Marco was still very generous with his time. The pictures that they sent afterwards were also spectacular. Lots of screen savers there! Our favorite part was how kind, patient, and knowledgeable Marco was. He is an incredibly talented guide and he was easy to talk to. He speaks perfect English, which we needed since we don’t speak Portuguese. Overall it was the highlight of our trip to Madeira which is one of the most special places on earth, so that says a lot. 😊

Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico cost?
+
Prices start at $106 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Madeira: Half-Day Private Walking Tour to Levada do Caniçal and Machico start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
