Disappointing Masai Mara day safari, rushed game drive, unfriendly safari driver
I booked a one-day Masai Mara safari with Niroskos Tours and Safaris via GetYourGuide. The pickup was excellent, our driver, Joseph, arrived at our hotel before 4 AM, right on time. However, the road to the reserve is in very poor condition, with deep ruts, holes and ditches in the middle, so the transfer took 4,5 hours. We had one coffee stop at ArtCaffe and reached the park around 8:30 AM. At the gate we were switched into an open 4x4 with a different driver, who was noticeably unfriendly. He didn’t check if we were comfortable, didn’t explain the plan and just drove quickly between animal sightings. Despite the high 200 USD per person park fee, there was no realistic chance to see the Big Five, when we asked, we were essentially told to come back another day and pay again, which felt unfair. We didn’t even get to see the riverside area in the park, he simply didn’t take us there. The driver spent time taking his own photos instead of focusing on us. We inhaled a lot of dust throughout the drive and the side canvas flaps were only lowered after we asked three times. In total, we spent only about 4 hours inside the park, which made the experience feel rushed and overpriced. Unfortunately, on the way back to Nairobi the window was kept fully open the entire time. It was used as the air conditioning or the AC may not have been working, but as a result we all got quite dusty. Overall, we left with an uncomfortable feeling.

Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Nairobi.
How much does Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Nairobi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Nairobi is not rushed.
Is Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Nairobi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Nairobi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Nairobi and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Maasai Mara Day Tour From Nairobi start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Nairobi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Nairobi?
+
On Outty we rank every Nairobi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 days group joining safari to Maasai Mara with a Land Cruiser Jeep, 1 Day trip to Hells Gate and optional Lake Naivasha From Nairobi, Nairobi Masai village Day Tour Experience. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Nairobi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Nairobi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
