    What you'll see and do

    1. Lahaina

We will sail in the inter island channel and witness humpback whales in their natural environment. We pride ourselves on true sailing. Once the trade winds fill our sails, we shut down the motors so you can enjoy the quiet rhythm of the ocean and the sounds of whales surfacing nearby. With limited guest capacity, comfortable shaded seating, and spacious bow trampolines, this intimate experience is designed for relaxation and awe. Every winter, thousands of Pacific humpback whales migrate to Maui’s warm, protected waters to mate, give birth, and nurture their young. Our expert crew shares fascinating insights about their behaviors while you enjoy a front-row view of breaches, tail slaps, and playful calves.

I loved that this was a small group sailing!

Small group was so nice, you didn't have people jumping in front of you all the time like on large ships/boats. The captain and crew were very nice, answered questions and gave us a great experience. The only thing I was a little bummed about is that we watched a cow and her calf for quite a while, but when they left we turned back and didn't go check other spouts on the way but put up the sails and just sailed. That was very neat, but I would have like to check a few more whales too. Otherwise, great time!

Wow! If you want to see whales up close, these folks deliver!!

Captain Brian and crew raised the sails as soon as we left the marina. The day was very sunny, warm and a slight breeze. We had a leisurely sail and immediately saw whales. We sailed for about 2 hours and saw several whales. One swam right by the boat so close we could see all the barnacles around it's mouth. Another breached about 200 yards in front of the boat!! The crew was fun and professional. We had great personalized attention as Sail Maui only books about 25 people per whale watching cruise. We loved our afternoon on the Paragon II, watching the whales. We will use Sail Maui again on our next trip to Maui.

They cancelled my trip then made ME call to request a refund

My wife and I booked a sunset whale watching trip weeks in advance. Lovely sounding, indeed. A week before the trip, I get an email from Sail Maui saying my trip has been cancelled. I called and was told that another patron had requested a private charter, and since my wife and I were the only two on our reservation at the time, our trip was cancelled in favor of Mr./Mrs. Big Spender. I can't blame Sail Maui from a pure money making standpoint. That said, they showed some serious nerve by making me call THEM to actually request and process my refund. Ludicrous. Bad customer relations. Bad business.

Response from the operator: Hey there Jacob! Apologies that you weren't pleased in this situation and that my response is coming in quite late. We reached out, left a voicemail, sent a text, as well as an e-mail. We couldn't reach you so we just needed you to call us back! If a private charter request comes in with only two passengers on board, we are generally able to accommodate both the private charter as well as the existing reservation by moving things around. We're sorry if a week's notice wasn't ample for you, and I hope you were able to thoroughly enjoy your Maui trip in spite of this inconvenience. Hope that helps clear this up!

Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Maui.

How much does Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary cost?

    +

Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Maui usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Maui is not rushed.

Is Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 52 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Maui, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Maui can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Maui and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Lahaina Maui Midmorning Whale Watch in the Humpback Sanctuary start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Maui within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Maui?

    +

Maui's three signature days are the Hana road, the Haleakala summit sunrise and the Molokini snorkel sail, and all three are logistics problems as much as experiences. Sunrise summit entry is permit-controlled, Hana is a ten-hour driving day, and Molokini boats vary wildly in size. Our ranking rewards operators who handle permits and keep boat capacity low. On Outty we rank every Maui experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Molokini Crater + South Maui Coast Adventure from Kihei, Maui, West Maui Snorkeling Experience by Boat from Ka'anapali, Maui Eco-Raft Tour: Eye-Level Whale or Dolphin Watching - Lahaina. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Maui?

    +

April to May and September to October. Whale season runs December to April. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Maui?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
