    They didn’t show up

We prepped and were on time for kayaking- and waited for a bit, tired to contact someone at the shop and got nothing. The shop was locked up, no one around. We walked to the beach and another company had informed us they just hadn’t shown up the day before as well. How does this just happen? It is not ok to leave your paying customers just stranded when they paid for an experience. Especially out of towners wanting an experience. Luckily we were able to go out with another company and had a great time.

    Misleading information

I was really excited to try this kayaking experience and see the caves in La Jolla. I had looked into booking a kayaking tour of the caves, but then saw the kayak rental that appeared to be the same thing without the tour guide. I prefer exploring things on my own and don't love being stuck with other groups of people. I went ahead and booked the kayak rental, which advertised "explore the caves." When I arrived at the shop, there were signs that clearly said that only groups with a tour guide would be able to enter the caves. When I asked the girl at the desk about this she told me that was the regulations. I told her that was very misleading since my rental had promised that I would be able to explore the caves. She told me that I could explore the caves from the outside. She also told me that nobody was entering the caves today because of the choppy waters. I would have upgraded to a guided tour, but at that point in the day, everything was already fully booked. Once we got to the beach, there was only 1 employee getting kayakers set up with kayaks and paddles and pushing them out. He told us he didn't have time to push up out, because he had to get his tour started. He said someone else would be out shortly. However after seeing that nobody was coming out to help us, he told us he could push us out if we could do it quickly. He was very helpful and we appreciated his kindness. Once out on the water, we had a very pleasant experience. It was very fun to have the kayak to ourselves and enjoy the peacefulness of the ocean. We approached the caves and saw many other guided groups "exploring them from the outside." I asked a tour guide from another company when it was ok to go inside the caves (what water conditions would allow for it) and he said that renters were never allowed inside without a guide...something that must be obvious to everyone, yet not advertised on your website for kayak rentals. There was one cave that guided kayakers were being guided into, which we would have loved to do, had it been clearly explained in the advertising. Overall, we had a good experience, despite the disappointment and false advertising.

100% worth it. Will do the kayak tour again.

Sammy was our tour guide and amazing. When we come back to visit again we will sign up for her time slot. She made the tour an enjoyable experience and had funny stories and jokes.

Bad experience and poor customer service

Would not recommend the company. Rented a locker and the girl told us as we were walking out she would grab the token. Our locker was never locked and was left open the entire time. Was told to find someone in a red shirt on the beach to get the kayak. Nobody was wearing a red shirt. Had to ask another company where this company was. Despite us having life jackets on wondering around the beach, the guy was sitting under an umbrella playing on his phone with no shirt on and no sign. Also, was completely ignored and not spoken to when returning the paddles and kayak. Would not recommend. The company in the blue shirts were friendly and more helpful and they did not even have our money.

La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Jolla.

How much does La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem) cost?

    +

Prices start at $54 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Jolla usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem) take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Jolla is not rushed.

Is La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem) worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 33 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Jolla, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem)?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem) suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem)?

    +

Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Jolla can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Jolla and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does La Jolla Kayak Rental for two people (Tandem) start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Jolla within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in La Jolla?

    +

La Jolla is San Diego's best water day: kayak tours into the sea caves, snorkelling with leopard sharks in the ecological reserve, coastal walks with sea lions and sunset sails. On Outty we rank every La Jolla experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cali Dreaming Electric Bike Tour of La Jolla and Pacific Beach, Incredible Slot Canyons to the Pacific, SoCal Riviera Electric Bike Tour of La Jolla and Mount Soledad. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Jolla?

    +

June to September for warm water, year-round for kayaking. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Jolla?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
