A fun adventure
We went in a tandem kayak. It was work, but not too bad. My husband has had 2 back surgeries and he was able to row with me. We saw beautiful caves and got to enter one. I would do this activity again. I would want to pair it with snorkeling because there were many things that we could see from above the water that im sure would look better with goggles on.

Great morning trip
Everything was provided by the company. I even was able to purchase a cute hat since I forgot mine at home. The guides were very energetic and entertaining and informative and helpful. We had a particularly lovely day on the ocean.

Great kayaking experience for newbies!
This was a great experience! I will say we were caught off guard when we weren't told that we won't be able to see the caves that day at check in and were instead told on the beach as we were getting ready to leave for the tour. Otherwise, it was a good experience and beginner friendly coming from someone who has never kayaked before in their life. We got to see the caves from a distance since the waves were too strong but nonetheless an excellent experience. The tour guide was well versed in the knowledge of sea creatures and La Jolla history which was a plus. I will be returning again:)

So exciting!!
It was great. We came 30 minutes in advance and rented a locker for $7 and they provided us a helmet and life vest. We waited down by the beach until our tour guides came and they gave us a quick demonstration on directing your kayak and how to get out and back from shore, which was such a relief because it was a first time. We had a blast, it was definitely a good team workout lol and a wonderful date idea overall! ☺️ we did get sunburnt lol, make sure to apply before your trip!! You are out longer than your sunblock lasts

The staff was friendly...
The staff was friendly and helpful. We would have appreciated being given accurate information on the ocean conditions. The employees that checked us I made it seem like it wasn’t that bad, our guides told us the opposite. We booked 2 doubles. My husband and I and our daughters in the other kayak. Halfway through the tour, my husband got sick because the ocean was so choppy. Our daughters did complete the tour but commented it was a challenge to get back yo shore due to the conditions. They were not able to go in the sea cave, which is one of the reasons we booked the tour. Pretty disappointing.

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Jolla.
How much does La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Jolla usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Jolla is not rushed.
Is La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 376 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Jolla, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour?
+
Around 132 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Jolla can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Jolla and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does La Jolla Sea Cave Tandem Kayak Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Jolla within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Jolla?
+
La Jolla is San Diego's best water day: kayak tours into the sea caves, snorkelling with leopard sharks in the ecological reserve, coastal walks with sea lions and sunset sails. On Outty we rank every La Jolla experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cali Dreaming Electric Bike Tour of La Jolla and Pacific Beach, Incredible Slot Canyons to the Pacific, SoCal Riviera Electric Bike Tour of La Jolla and Mount Soledad. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Jolla?
+
June to September for warm water, year-round for kayaking. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Jolla?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
