About this experience
Established in 1940 by Nazi Germany, in abandoned Polish army barracks, Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp and extermination center. Out of the 1.3 million people which the SS and police deported, there were over 1.1 million men, women and children who lost their lives in this horrifying place. The Memorial is made up of two parts of the former camp: Auschwitz and Birkenau. This infamous concentration camp operated from May 1940 in the suburbs of Oswiecim (Auschwitz in German) until January 1945, when it was liberated by the 1st Ukranian Front of the Soviet Union’s Red Army. The tall barbed wire fences surrounding the block cells which were intended to house the suffering prisoners. The watchtowers and the wooden barracks, along with the gallows and gas chambers show the terrifying image and demonstrate the enormous scale and depravity of Nazi Germany. It was the largest concentration camp of the II World War.

Excellent guided & trip
We used Krakowfy to book our visit to the Salt Mines & due to the thoughts of crowds we decided to book Auschwitz & Birkenau with them to. Again we had our lovely driver Yanek who picked us from our accommodation. He left us in the very capable hands of Magda when we arrived . She was an excellent guide & thoughtful .. it turned out to be just the two of us & she avoided the crowds the best she could It was an extremely hot day but Auschwitz buildings did have some fans. Worth noting that in hot weather it’s a good idea to take bottled water & maybe rain gear at other times as Birkenau is very open with no shade or shelter. There is very little time between Auschwitz & Birkenau.. maybe just long enough to eat a quick sandwich. No food is allowed in either place & you cannot buy any .. so take your own. You can buy bottled water at the shop at the entrance to Birkenau & there is also a toilet . I would definitely recommend paying extra for these smaller group tours .

Excellent service from Krakowfy
After hearing many stories of bad experiences with Auschwitz tours, we opted to pay a little more and get a private transfer with small group guided tour through Krakowfy. Communication from Kamil was excellent from the start, and organisation on the day with Janek our driver was seamless. It was lovely not to have to worry about cancellation, changed pick-up times, queues etc. - and instead be able to focus on the sobering experience itself. I highly recommend Krakowfy for this experience.

Last minute booking
We booked this last minute with less than 24 hrs to go as our previous tour was cancelled last minute. Very grateful to have been able to go after flying to Poland just for this. Our driver Simon was really lovely and drove us there and back safely. But, as a private tour, i would have expected a little more for our money, we essentially just paid £120 each just for a taxi there and back and the tour in Auschwitz was with a group and an audio guide. The ease of not sorting the tickets or queuing up was appreciated though and i would recommend if it was slightly more reasonable.

Fabulous guide.
Booked a month prior after seeing lots let down at the last minute. Kamil was waiting for us 10 mins before our 7am pick up time. He was very informative, telling us much of the history of Poland and the areas he would recommend us visiting. After dropping us at Auschwitz, he got out of the car, showed us where to go and gave us our tickets. He said to text him once we’d finish the tour and he would pick us up. Very much worth doing. Kamil was fab and even booked us tickets for the following day at the salt mines. Will definitely use again when we come back to Poland.

Why this scores 55
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Krakow.
How much does Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport cost?
+
Prices start at $400 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Krakow usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Krakow is not rushed.
Is Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 22 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Krakow, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Krakow can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Krakow and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Krakow: Auschwitz - Birkenau Guided Tour with Private Transport start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Krakow within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Krakow?
+
On Outty we rank every Krakow experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Complete Cracow Bike Tour (small group of maximum 15 people!), Krakow–Zakopane: Cable Car, Chocholow Baths, Cheese & Vodka, Krakow: Zakopane & Hot Springs Tour with Cable Car (Hotel Pickup). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Krakow?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Krakow?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
