Considered the most scenic of the various routes up Mount Kilimanjaro. The Machame route, also known as the “Whiskey” route, is the most popular route up Kilimanjaro. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the south; beginning with a short drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. It continues through the lush rainforest and follows a path that offers occasional views of Mt Meru, Shira Ridge and Mount Kilimanjaro. The route proceeds to Lava Tower and descends towards Barranco Wall via the Southern Circuit. It summits at Barafu and descends through the Mweka route. We recommends 6 or 7 days on this route, but 7 days are preferable for better acclimatization.

Mathew from Mashimba Adventures is an excellent chief guide for climbing Kilimanjaro. He is a professional and highly recommended even for inexperienced mountain hikers. Thanks to Mathew, I made it to Uhuru Peak (Machame Route – 6 days) at the age of 56. Crucial factors included: the well-planned daily schedule and ascent, the excellent acclimatization measures, and his principle "pole plole – we do carefuly". There was plenty of time for photos and videos. Mathew explained a lot about Kilimanjaro, the climate zones, and the plants. His team was well-organized: the tents were already set up before we arrived at the camp, and the food was ready shortly afterward. It was a very special adventure for me. Thank you Mathew for this success (Uhuru Peak 5,895 m)!
