    Life changing experience!!!

Kevin’s Kibera slum tour is not for the faint-hearted, but it’s an experience I won’t forget. This is a real community, not Disneyland or a luxury hotel. The paths can be dusty or slippery, with bamboo and wooden rails, rubbish, smells and the odd sharp piece of metal overhead. Take care, watch your step and mind your head. I felt safe throughout. Our guides were well known and loved by the community, and they looked after us carefully. The children were the highlight: happy, welcoming and full of life. We visited several classrooms, spoke with teachers and helpers, and saw how community effort and outside support are helping them learn. The teachers volunteer, and the rooms and resources are very basic. We also saw smoke in the kitchen as food was being prepared for the children. It’s an eye-opener, and you can see how much support they need to build a future and have the same opportunities as anyone else. We were welcomed into a family’s home and got a glimpse of how simply people live. Life isn’t perfect here, but people do their best with the cards they’ve been dealt, just as we all do. Please take the tour if you can. Meet the children, listen to the community and support their future. I promise it will be worth every shilling. The pickup and drop off are very convenient and safe to do this tour. I prefer this rather than meeting in kibera alone where I do not know anyone. Guided from door to door. Excellent tour. Take it and you will not regret it 😀

    Must visit!

We were picked up right at our hotel by Kevin and after picking up another couple we went directly to Kibera. Kevin explained what we would be doing and gave us the history behind the location and how him and his brother Ishmael began their tours. After parking in a central location we went to two schools and did a home visit at Ismael's house. It was a very humbling tour. Seeing how people here live their daily lives and not only survive but smile with what's been given them. The children at the schools were adorable snd so excited to see us. We brought some school supplies and they were graciously received. So glad we decided to take this tour and help support (through Kevin) the work that is being done in the community to bring food, shelter and education to the most vulnerable.

    Recommended Kibera slum tour

Kevin gave us a wonderful and very insightful tour of Kibera. He told us about the history and origins of the community and gave us a genuine insight into everyday life in Kibera. We were particularly impressed by the school and orphanage that have been established, which we think is a wonderful initiative. Kevin’s brother, who still lives in Kibera, also warmly welcomed us into his home, where we had the opportunity to meet his family and see what everyday housing in Kibera looks like. The tour gave us a much deeper understanding of the Kibera community and the people who live there. We were very impressed by Kevin’s knowledge, openness and the way he shared his personal connection to Kibera. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about Kibera beyond what you see from the outside.

Kevins Kibera Slum Tours: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Nairobi.

How much does Kevins Kibera Slum Tours cost?

    +

Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Nairobi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Kevins Kibera Slum Tours take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Nairobi is not rushed.

Is Kevins Kibera Slum Tours worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 85 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 277 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Nairobi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Kevins Kibera Slum Tours?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Kevins Kibera Slum Tours suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Kevins Kibera Slum Tours?

    +

Around 97 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Nairobi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Nairobi and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Kevins Kibera Slum Tours start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Nairobi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Nairobi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Nairobi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Wild 5-Day Safari: Magical Mara, Nakuru Wonders & Hell's Gate, 2 Days Amboseli Safari using a 4x4 Landcruiser jeep(with options), Kibera Slum Tour with Lucas. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Nairobi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Nairobi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
