You can’t experience Ketchikan without spotting some wildlife, so we have 3 stops just for possible sightings of bears, salmon, and eagles. You will also learn all about the history behind the iconic totem poles of Alaska as we explore the Totem Bight Historical State Park and hear legendary stories that have been passed down for generations. We will also show you what medicinal plants and berries are edible as we travel through the Rainforest in our comfy van. Totem Bight State Historical Park
Walk with us beneath the Tongass rainforest canopy on the short trail to the Clan House, where the forest itself becomes part of the story. Along the way, your guide will bring the rainforest ecosystem to life—towering trees, native plants, fungi, and the salmon that nourish this land and its people. Keep watch for ravens and eagles, who are often seen and heard in this area. At the Clan House, you’ll step inside a traditional home of a Clan leader and extended family, where history, identity, and teachings were passed from one generation to the next. Outside, the totem poles stand as carved stories in cedar. Here you’ll hear the story of the Devil Fish Pole and the Raven-Fog Woman Totem Pole, including how Fog Woman gave the people the gift of returning salmon each spring, summer, and fall. This is more than a walk through a historic site—it is a living story of forest, family, and culture.

This salmon ladder is an easy thing to miss in Ketchikan but don't! It really shows how the salmon have to fight th currenCityt to get to their spawning grounds. Best time to view the Salmon Spawn is June thru September. Our route travels on Park along Ketchikan Creek thru Tlighit Town passing by city park on our way to Herring Cove and other stops.

The tour guide was late...
The tour guide was late showing up to the tour (not a good start). We were hoping to see some of the wildlife of the area but except for spawning salmon we didn't see any. We spent about an hour at Bight State Park which was okay but we couldn't hear our guide when she would offer information about the items we were looking at. We also got a chance to hear our guide's give us her opinion on her politics (of which I think most of the group held the opposite opinion) completely out of place for a tour we were paying for. The tour really could have been put together better with a little effort.

Dan Dan the Wildlife Man!
What a superb tour with Clan House Tours. Our owner/driver/guide was brilliant from start to finish. With a small group of just six in a clean, neat and well-kept minibus, the whole experience felt relaxed and personal. He gave us a lovely tour but was also really flexible, allowing us to spend more time on the parts we were most interested in rather than simply sticking rigidly to an itinerary. He was incredibly knowledgeable, and what made it particularly special was hearing his own personal and family history alongside the local history and stories of the Indigenous people. It gave the places we visited a much deeper meaning. The wildlife was fantastic - four black bears, eagles and a seal, as well as a great little waterfall. We honestly could have stood watching the bears all day! The salmon ladder was also fascinating and a real highlight. A genuinely memorable, personal experience and one of those tours where the guide makes all the difference. Absolutely superb and highly recommended.

Definitely not worth it
We so wish we had stayed in town instead of doing this excursion. While the guide was knowledgeable and personable, she was not a good guide. She wasn't at the meeting point on time (we had to go to her van to find her), had to cut our time short while waiting for others that never showed. I was nervous the entire time because she seemed totally unaware of our all aboard time. Never mentioned how long we should be at each stop. Talked freely to us since we were sitting close to her in the van but I doubt others could here her. Very nice person but not suited to being a guide.

Good trip but it finished an hour early, only just made picking us on time. Meta was very knowledgeable on local knowledge.
