About this experience
Take a guided tour of the Waccamaw River learning about the local wildlife, trees and plants along the river with a chance to explore a 48 acre private island. Each tour is different and unique since nature is so unpredictable; as well as different times of the year and seasons brings out various wildlife. But we typically see turtles, fish, non-venomous water snakes, squirrels, cranes, herons, kites, egrets, pileated woodpeckers, baby toads, dragon flies and lizards. Other animals that are a possibility but rarely seen include: deer, bald eagle, wild hogs, river otter, muskrat, beaver, alligator and black bear.

Full filling day
I truly loved this. I had never been in a kayak. But i have always wanted to learn. This was perfect for me and my husband. He has Lewy body dementia and simple instructions are hard for him. He could not have been in a boat by himself. So they put us together and one of the guides stayed by our side the whole trip and helped me keep the boat going in the right direction. But by the end of the trip I felt more confident and more relaxed. They gave us a lot of information about the river and the trees and animals that were along the banks of the river. The guides were very gentle and kind with me and my husband. I couldn’t have asked for more. I highly recommend this to anyone.
Response from the operator: Thank YOU so much for coming and leaving this review! We feel blessed that we had the opportunity to be the guides to take you and your husband kayaking.

Fantastic Experience
Awesome experience. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and friendly. You don't have to be an experienced kayaker to enjoy it. Staff was patient and gave everyone in my group a quick lesson. Not that they can control the river, but it was calm, perfect for a leisurely kayaking. A few opportunities for birding. It was great learning more about the nature of the Waccamaw River. Definitely worth it!

Great time on the kayak....
Great time on the kayak. Paddled out for about half an hour then back then the other direction. Fun little outdoor experience.

Nice, calm river to kayak
It is a nice site-they have a cute petting zoo and the bathrooms and changing areas are good. The layout is very nice with shaded areas. They had very good service as well. It was easy to get on the river and the employees were very nice and helpful. The only point I would make is that the title Of the tour says kayaking to a private island. It is accurate, but it gave me the impression we would kayak to the island and be allowed to explore. This is not the case. You go up one side of the river for the first half ( about 45 minutes) and then you go up the other side where this island resides (although it looks no different than the banks of the river we just paddled by) and he points to it and explains who owns it. We just rest there for a few minutes and paddle back to the tour place. I’d say the total time, including getting the life jackets and training was about 1.5 hours.

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kayak River Tour to a Private Island: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Myrtle Beach.
How much does Kayak River Tour to a Private Island cost?
+
Prices start at $62 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Myrtle Beach usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kayak River Tour to a Private Island take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Myrtle Beach is not rushed.
Is Kayak River Tour to a Private Island worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Myrtle Beach, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kayak River Tour to a Private Island?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kayak River Tour to a Private Island suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kayak River Tour to a Private Island?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Myrtle Beach can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Myrtle Beach and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kayak River Tour to a Private Island start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Myrtle Beach within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Myrtle Beach?
+
Myrtle Beach runs dolphin cruises, deep sea fishing charters, helicopter flights over the Grand Strand, and low country day trips to Charleston and Brookgreen Gardens. Charter boat size and included gear are the deciding factors offshore. On Outty we rank every Myrtle Beach experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Waccamaw River Nature and Wildlife Tour, The Escape Game at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, Music and Memories at Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Myrtle Beach?
+
April to June and September to October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Myrtle Beach?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
