Exertion and adventure in equal measure
Booked a one day mountain bike tour at short notice (next day) as I had some spare time in Kathmandu. My guide, Suman, arrived early and we spent 10 - 15 minutes discussing potential routes based on my level of fitness (reasonable) + experience (fun cyclist). His English was excellent and we had no trouble at all understanding each other - I told him I was looking for a mix of physical exertion and adventure and he proposed a route which he thought would be suitable and off we went. The first few miles were through Kathmandu city traffic, which was all the adventure I needed! Pretty scary stuff for someone not used to the sheer chaos of the road system however Suman led the way and used sign gestures (left, right, slow down, watch out, tuck in, pull alongside etc.) to help me get through it. As the traffic died down we started the steep ride up Shivapuri into the National Park and eventually got off the paved road and onto the trail. My cycling experience level is basic (paved roads, light trails) but with my guide showing me which lines to take and what to look out for I was soon feeling comfortable. The bike was also rugged with big tires and good brakes which gave me confidence on the rocky trail where Suman pointed out different types of birds + wildlife and I saw monkeys in the wild for the first time. After a few miles Suman suggested we could move off the jeep (wide) trail and onto a more challenging single track trail. Based on his assurances I was happy to try it and was so glad that I did. It was something so far out of my comfort zone that I would never have tried had I not been with such a competent guide who was able to advise on riding techniques and routes down the mountain which were very challenging for me, but also knowing which parts weren't suitable due to my low experience level. After stopping for a traditional Nepalese lunch in a small village we continued on the single trails until we dropped down into the outskirts of Kathmandu again. My bike developed a problem with the gears but Suman managed a temporary running repair on the mountainside and as we entered Kathmandu we detoured to a cycle repair shop where he fixed the issue properly and we continued back through the city traffic to my hotel. I can't recommend this experience highly enough. My guide + equipment was excellent and the slight issue I suffered was resolved quickly + expertly. My goals of physical exertion and adventure were exceeded way above expectations and this tour was the perfect finish to my vacation in Nepal.

Why this scores 49
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.
How much does Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $165 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.
Is Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kathmandu: Extreme Mountain Biking Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?
+
On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kathmandu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
