    About this experience

Kandy is where history and tradition are combined to create a culture. Capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom, which fell to the British in 1815 after defying the Portuguese and Dutch for three centuries. It took the British another 16 tough years to finally build a road linking Kandy with Colombo. Do insist on spending at least a Day in the misty hill city that looks good even when it’s raining. Some days Kandy’s skies seem perpetually bruised, with stubborn mist clinging to the hills surrounding the city’s beautiful center piece lake. This Kandy sightseeing tour visits multiple highlights of the UNESCO-listed city with our professional Chauffeur/guide

    Highly recommended

Amazing! Driver was on time, safe driver, courteous, polite and very patient. Unlike other drivers (from other companies) he did not talk on his phone while I was in the car

Day trip to Kandy's sights by car

Pleasant car journeys from sight to sight. The time and place were individually arranged well in advance. My driver Dilshan gave me enough time for the stops at the places so that I could see everything at my leisure. I highly recommend Mahaweli Tours. Many thanks and all the best Irina

Kany city tour with a car

I really enjoyed this tour. It was amazing experiencing the city with a guide. We stoped at all interesting locations. My guide Nuwan was very kind and attentive. As I went alone on this tour, he tried to make me comfortable the whole time, took pictures of me so that I would have memories, kindly answered all my questions. The agency was very professional, they sent me all the information the night before. In the morning, Nuwan was punctual, he picked me up in front of the hotel at the agreed time. We visited all the listed locations and then he dropped me at my hotel. I honestly recommend this tour and this agency!

Excellent Experience with Dushan in Kandy

The car was very good. Clean and tidy and very spacious. Dushan the driver is one of the best person we have met in Srilanka. He showed us places, helped us buy artwork for our house, negotiated with the shopkeepers on our behalf. He made us both very comfortable. He is also a very safe driver. We would recommend him with eyes closed.

    Solo Traveler Here

Had this tour on my first day in Kandy, trains were on strike during my visit so I was super late, we started like 1pm I think (thankyou for adjusting!). I was with Nisantha, a great guide. We went to a war cemetary, a tea factory, a gem store, to the longest river in Sri Lanka (forgot the name) and to the Temple of Tooth (but we werent able to go inside it cause there were like lots of police that day standing outside and will be hard to get in, so I just went the next day). At the end of the tour I wanted some kotu roti, so we went to a place which i forgot the name and eat (best kotu roti on my entire stay in Sri Lanka). Booked my Sigiriya tour with them too. Very safe! Thank you so much!

Response from the operator: Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you very much for your kind words and the time spent on making this comment. We are really happy to see that our staff is giving the maximum service to satisfy our guests. Please keep in touch. Thank you :)

Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kandy.

How much does Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli cost?

    +

Prices start at $38 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kandy usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kandy is not rushed.

Is Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kandy, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kandy can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kandy and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Kandy City Tour with Mahaweli start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kandy within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kandy?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kandy experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Explore Kandy City Tour by Tuk Tuk, Tours and Transportation in Sri Lanka, Chauffeur guide and Tour organizer. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kandy?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kandy?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
