High in the northeast corner of Nepal’s Taplejung district lies Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters/28,169 feet), the world’s third-highest mountain, straddles the border of Tibet, India, and Nepal, standing tall above. On one of Nepal’s most remote trails, the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek provides the adventure of a lifetime. Learn about the local Rai, Limbu, and Tibetan villagers who call this place home. Though they are all Nepalese, each group speaks their own dialect, practices their own rituals, and has their own customs. Also, home to this region is rare animals, such as the Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, the snow leopard, and even the sly Red Panda. For the birders out there, you’ll have the opportunity to see, snow cock and pheasant, among others. If you are up for a journey that is comparable to the Everest Base Camp Trek in terms of views, but with far fewer trekkers, the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek is perfect for you.

Review for Rupesh Silwal
Rupesh was our porter for our 17 day Kanchenjunga circuit trek and I was so impressed in every way by his attitude, performance and how he was able to be a kind, supporting presence all while carrying the weight of not only our bags but his own. At one point at the steepest point on an increasingly slippery trail I could feel Rupesh holding the handle of my bag to make sure I didn’t fall (this with a full load on his back!) He was also quick to assist with everything he could when we reached the tea houses; refilling water, clearing and serving plates of food and making beautiful displays of our fruit plate (a welcome and appreciated surprise at the end of often long and tiring days of trekking). Rupesh would often break trail for us when it snowed and would be waiting at the tea houses with a welcome smile and a wave, ready to bring us honey lemon ginger tea to our room. I highly recommend him as a porter and look forward to his future success as he works towards becoming a certified guide.

13-Day Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek was Amazing!
13-day Kanchenjunga South Base Camp trek and we got Galje as our guide and couldn’t expect anyone better! He was always smiling and was amazing at making suggestions that matched our slower pace like climbing Sunpati Peak on the same day as our KBC south push. He always had some snacks ready for us and also prepared a fresh fruit salad for us every evening, which he carried from Taplejung with him the entire trip, what a guy!! The Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek was such a great experience for us. Thank you so much Kishowr for organizing this trek.

What a beautiful trekking route! Lifetime experience!
I was looking for a remote area trekking in Nepal. I found the Breeze Adventures menu about it and got in contact with Kishwor (the owner). He suggested the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek. He answered all my questions and also he sent me some photos and videos of the KBC South trek. We had 18 days’ vacation and it was perfect for us. The trail was so peaceful and guest houses were okay for sleep. The food was delicious. We tried lots of local food during our trek. Our guide Sushant was great! He guided us very well and explained in detail about the Limbu culture and the trail and villages. The view from Kanchenjunga South Base Camp was breathtaking! Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.
How much does Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days cost?
+
Prices start at $2,085 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days take?
+
Plan for about 312 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.
Is Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 312-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 312-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek - 13 Days start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?
+
On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kathmandu Sightseeing | UNESCO World Heritage sites Private/Group, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek: Private Group & Discounte Price. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kathmandu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
