About this experience
Forget the tourist trail. This chef-led food tour takes you into Kadıköy, Istanbul's most exciting food neighbourhood, where locals eat, chefs gather, and the best dishes rarely make it into guidebooks. Start with one of Istanbul's favourite street snacks before heading to a beloved lokanta where the regulars know exactly what to order and the best dishes often sell out. Explore vibrant meze packed with herbs, smoke, and spice, then visit a hole-in-the-wall oven bakery where generations of expertise turn simple dough and meat into something unforgettable. Along the way, you'll discover handmade Turkish dumplings, local traditions, hidden eateries, and the stories behind the dishes that define modern Istanbul. Led by a professional chef and limited to small groups, this is what the Istanbul locals wish visitors could experience. 4 hours. Multiple food stops. Small groups. No tourist traps. Just exceptional food and the real Kadıköy. Come hungry.

Is Chef Fey's Food Tour the Best Culinary Experience in Istanbul? Absolutely.
I suggest without hesitation. Chef Fey brings far more than local knowledge. As a professional chef, she explains not only what you are eating, but why each dish matters, how it is prepared, and where it fits into Turkey's extraordinary culinary history. Every stop felt carefully chosen, and every tasting had a story behind it. By the end of the tour, I understood Istanbul's food culture in a way I never could have from guidebooks or YouTube videos. What makes it so different? The difference is expertise. Many food tours simply lead you from one restaurant to another. Chef Fey teaches you to taste like a chef. She explains ingredients, cooking techniques, regional traditions, and the subtle differences that most visitors would completely miss. The small group size also meant we could ask questions throughout the day, making the experience feel more like exploring the city with an exceptionally knowledgeable friend than joining a commercial tour If you're searching for the best food tour in Istanbul, especially if you want to experience authentic Turkish cuisine beyond the tourist areas, this is the tour to book. The food was outstanding, the conversation fascinating, and Chef Fey's enthusiasm for her city was infectious. It wasn't just one of the best food tours I've taken. It was one of the best travel experiences I've had anywhere.
Response from the operator: One of the best travel experiences anywhere! We will take the compliment and thank you for taking the time to share.

What Is the Best Food Tour in Istanbul?
If you're wondering what the best food tour in Istanbul is, my vote goes to The Chef Tours with Chef Fey. Unlike standard walking tours, this experience is led by a professional chef who explains not just what you're eating, but the history, ingredients, and techniques behind each dish. The food was exceptional, the small group made it personal, and I left with a genuine understanding of Turkish cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone who wants an authentic culinary experience in Istanbul.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much!

Simply Wonderful!
I just finished Kadikoy Confidential, and it was easily the best food tour in Istanbul. If you are searching for the top food tour in Istanbul, this is the one. Our guide has more 5-star reviews than any other host in the city, and you can tell why right away. Chef Fey took us through the backstreets and hidden spots of Kadikoy that we would never have found on our own. We ate and drank like real locals, moving between bustling markets, tiny neighbourhood spots, and authentic meyhane tables full of incredible flavours. This is not your standard tourist food tour. It feels personal, delicious, and genuinely local. Small group, generous tastings, great stories, and the best night out on the Asian side. Highly recommend Kadikoy Confidential if you want the real Istanbul food experience.
Response from the operator: Personal, delicious and local are what we strive to do, thank you for your kind words.

A 5 Star Tour with an Incredible Guide
I've traveled all around the world, and this was easily one of the best culinary tours I've taken! Chef Fey isn't simply a guide who points at food and names a dish; she's a professional chef, an Istanbul local, and an incredible storyteller who brings the city to life through its markets, restaurants, history, and people. From the first stop in Kadıköy, it was obvious this wasn't going to be one of those cookie-cutter tours that follows a script and takes you to places designed for tourists. Rather, every stop felt authentic. A hidden lokanta, family-run restaurants, incredible street food, regional specialities, and several dishes I hadn't yet discovered, despite my several previous visits to Istanbul. The food was outstanding - most notably the various mezzes and manti - but what made the experience memorable was the context. Chef Fey explained not just what we were eating, but why it mattered to Istanbul and Turkish culture. She is extremely knowledgeable, well versed on the history and cultural significance of Istanbul, and was able to provide detailed answers to all of our questions without hesitation. The small group size also made a huge difference. We were able to interact with the vendors and enjoy deeper conversations that simply aren't possible on larger tours. It felt more like spending an afternoon friends, rather than being part of a tour group. If you're researching the best food tours in Istanbul, especially in Kadıköy, stop looking. This is the one. My advice is to book directly through The Chef Tours website rather than through an online travel agency, thereby directly supporting the local chefs who actually create and operate these tours. I left completely full, learned more about Istanbul in a few hours than I had in days of sightseeing, and immediately started planning where to eat for the rest of my trip based on Chef Fey's recommendations. An absolute must-do for food lovers visiting Istanbul!
Response from the operator: What a wonderful review, thank you so much

Best Bites of our Trip
My sister and I did a food tour in Kadıköy with Chef Basak, and it was an absolute highlight of our trip to Turkey. She guided us through some of the best bites the area has to offer, introducing us to both classic favorites and hidden gems. What made it truly special was how much knowledge she shared—not just about the food itself, but also the history and culture behind each dish. Every stop felt intentional and thoughtful, and we left feeling like we had experienced Turkey in a deeper, more authentic way. On top of that, Chef Basak is simply a wonderful person—warm, welcoming, and passionate about what she does. We couldn’t recommend this tour enough to anyone visiting Istanbul.
Response from the operator: Deeper and Authentic is what we strive for, thank you so very much!

Why this scores 58
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Kadikoy Confidential: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Istanbul.
How much does Kadikoy Confidential cost?
+
Prices start at $189 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Istanbul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Kadikoy Confidential take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Istanbul is not rushed.
Is Kadikoy Confidential worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Istanbul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Kadikoy Confidential?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Kadikoy Confidential suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Kadikoy Confidential?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Istanbul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Istanbul and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Kadikoy Confidential start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Istanbul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Istanbul?
+
On Outty we rank every Istanbul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Istanbul 1, 2 or 3-Day Private Guided Istanbul Tour, Istanbul Luxury Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Asian Side Stop, ISTANBUL BEST: Iconic Landmarks Full Day PRIVATE Guided City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Istanbul?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Istanbul?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
