Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park
Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River – The Last Bath / The First Bath of return Assin Manso, located in Ghana’s Central Region, was a significant slave market and the site of the enslaved Africans’ “last bath” before being sent to the coastal dungeons. Known as Donko Nsuo, this river was where captured Africans were washed, rested, and inspected before the final march to Elmina or Cape Coast for shipment across the Atlantic. Today, Assin Manso stands as a sacred site of remembrance and healing. Its tranquil waters hold the memories of those who passed through in chains. The site features the Memorial Garden of Return, where the remains of two formerly enslaved Africans from the U.S. and Jamaica were reinterred in 1998. Walking these grounds is a spiritual and emotional journey—an invitation to reconnect with the past, honor the ancestors, and reflect on a legacy of resilience, survival, and ancestral pride.

A beautiful and moving adventure
Dennis and Joseph “Akom” were amazing. Dennis picked my mom and I up from the Kempinski Hotel Sunday morning and we had a long scenic drive to Cape Coast. We stopped along the way for fresh coconut water and took photos. Our tour of Cape Coast Castle was very moving. We appreciate our guide’s attention to detail. The Lemon Beach Resort was beautifully and sustainably designed. Our lunch was delicious. We had a semi private dinner and show on the patio of the restaurant. Our 3 course dinner with wine pairing was beautifully displayed and tasty. The chef came to greet us as he was very personable and wanted to be sure we were pleased. The show kept our attention as it was interactive and fun. We had a yummy buffet breakfast before heading to our batik workshop. Here we met Elisabeth, her daughter and friendly crew that helped us design our very own fabric. We learned so much and they were patient and kind. From here we traveled to Elmina Castle with Joseph “Akom.” We had a very informative tour guide. This was just as moving as Cape Coast. Here we purchased a thumb drive that has a documentary of the 2 castles and the history of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. I also purchased T-shirts and a unique kaftan. We returned to the hotel to have lunch before taking our long drive back to Accra. Another delicious meal had. We returned to Accra after 7pm as the unpaved roads are bumpy and dark. However, both Dennis and Joseph “Akom” were excellent drivers who maneuverer well and kept us safe. Thank you! I would definitely be back with my husband and our adult children. I recommend Zion Tours Africa for exceptional service when visiting our beautiful country.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled you had such a memorable experience with Dennis and Joseph “Akom,” and that every part of your journey from Cape Coast to Elmina and Lemon Beach was meaningful and enjoyable. We truly appreciate your recommendation and would love to welcome you and your family back to Ghana again!

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Accra?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Accra?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
