An authentic experience of Sri Lanka's finest tea in a single visit!
The Tea Tasting visit at James Taylor Tea Atelier was a remarkable experience. I was impressed with the sophisticated environment and presentation which, displayed Sri Lanka's longstanding expertise in Tea production. Mr. Shehan Fernando and his team delivered an authentic and informative session, engaging with the crowd as they provided a thorough explanation on the industry's history, production and the highlighted experience of tasting a range of different tea blends with their unique flavours. The entire session was carried out at a relaxed pace and not overwhelmingly lengthy, which made it all the more enjoyable for us. Truly a memorable experience and I can definitely recommend paying a visit here!

A unique experience
As a group of students, we visited this place and were quite amazed to learn about and experience the historical background of tea. The Owner, Mr Shehan Fernando, provided all of us with incredible insight into his own background and what inspired him to enter the Tea Industry as well as taking us through the 8-stage tea production process from how the right leaves are plucked in Stage 1 based on the appearance of the leaf all the way to how different teas are identified based on different tasting techniques in Stage 8. This enhanced our knowledge of tea history, especially in Sri Lanka, seeing that tea is one of the few naturally growing resources that is in great demand around the world. Moreover, each of us got the chance to taste 17 different types of tea ranging from Green Tea, Cinnamon flavoured tea, Earl Grey-flavoured black tea, Ginger Infusion tea and much more. This was an incredible and memorable experience for all of us, and we sincerely thank all the members of the James Taylor Tea Ceylon for providing us with this opportunity!
Response from the operator: Thank you for this fantastic review! Mr Shehan Fernando and the team absolutely loved hosting your student group. We're thrilled that you enjoyed learning about our history, the 8-stage production process, and tasting all 17 varieties of our tea. Wishing you the very best in your studies, and we hope to welcome you back again soon!

Definitely one of the most memorable educational experiences
We had the privilege of visiting the tea company on an educational tour organized by our school on the 1st of June. The experience was truly exceptional and far exceeded our expectations. Throughout the visit, we were introduced to many fascinating aspects of tea production that we had never learned about before, making it both educational and memorable. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Shehan Fernando and his wonderful team for their warm hospitality and for taking the time to share their knowledge and expertise with us. The opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the tea industry made the occasion especially meaningful and unique. One of the highlights of the visit was the tea tasting session, where we had the chance to sample a variety of unique and luxurious tea blends that many of us had never experienced before. We greatly appreciated this opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different flavours, aromas, and qualities of premium teas. Overall, it was an enriching and unforgettable experience, and we are truly thankful to Mr. Shehan Fernando and his team for making it such a special and enjoyable visit.

James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Colombo.
How much does James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center cost?
+
Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Colombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center take?
+
Plan for about 0.8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Colombo is not rushed.
Is James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Colombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 0.8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Colombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Colombo and add a light layer if any part of the 0.8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does James Taylor Tea Atelier Colombo Tasting Experience Center start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Colombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Colombo?
+
On Outty we rank every Colombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Flexi dates on all 5 to 7 days packages for car and English speaking driver, Sri Lanka Personal Tour Driver in private vehicle, Private Multi Day Sri Lanka Tour with Chauffeur. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Colombo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Colombo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
