Then on June 22, 1527, the combined forces of the Demak and Cirebon Sultanates led by Pengeran Jayakarta successfully expelled the Portuguese and changed the name Sunda Kelapa to Jayakarta until it eventually became Jakarta. Thus, June 22 was designated as the birthday of Jakarta.
