Basilica Cistern
The Basilica Cistern, built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century, is a vast underground water reservoir that once supplied the Great Palace and surrounding buildings in Constantinople. Measuring about 140 by 70 meters, it covers nearly 10,000 square meters and could store around 100,000 tons of water. What a fantastic tour! We did it with our children (7 & 9) and extra effort was taken to keep them entertained and engaged (inc the occasional magic trick, which they loved!). Really knowledgeable guide and the tour was very informative. Highly recommend

Muhammet was extremely knowledgeable about the Hagia Sophia - but also Turkey's history as a whole. He was intentional in the context he shared to help us better understand the whole picture.
