Today it is a square in Istanbul, Turkey, known as Sultanahmet Square (Turkish: Sultanahmet Meydanı). The word hippodrome comes from the Greek hippos (ἵππος), horse, and dromos (δρόμος), path or way. For this reason, it is sometimes also called Atmeydanı ("Horse Square") in Turkish. Horse racing and chariot racing were popular pastimes in the ancient world and hippodromes were common features of Greek cities in the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras.

THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!
SAW Travel, Turgut and Eren, get the highest marks possible! Turgut, the director of operations is simply the best. His assistance, detailed communication and above all, his kindness made our experience one of a lifetime. The price was exceptional! EREN our tour guide was also one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life. Not only did he do a great job guiding us through the history of iconic landmarks like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, cisterns, the spice market and more, his personal experience and comments add another layer of understanding to our experience. I particularly liked his attention to our wellbeing and safety. I never felt unsafe at any moment while in Istanbul. But when Eren stated that if anyone ever gave us trouble to let him know and he would take care invite. Coming from an accomplished professional boxer, this really added a measure of comfort for us and was so kind and we cannot thank him enough for caring for us like family. This was true of everyone we encountered while being guided through the astounding city of Istanbul. Mere words cannot express the quality and level of expertise we experienced while under their care. Thank you so much! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Outstanding tour with brilliant guide.
My Experience was Amazing on this Tour. Such interesting places and areas to visit on Asian side and European side. Turut went above and beyond to look after me. I felt as a solo traveller very safe in Istanbul on the tour he provided for me. Firat, the driver, was so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I can thoroughly recommend this Company if you are in Istanbul.
