    This was such an...

This was such an incredible experience. Chef Lela was so warm and welcoming. She taught the history behind jerk before we got to make it. The food was amazing. I had an entire feast and an amazing conversation!! I’m so so so glad that I came and will absolutely be doing this again next time I’m back in Fort Lauderdale!!! Cannot recommend enough 💕

    Chef’s Kiss!

My time with Lela was wonderful. I had the pleasure of enjoying the experience all by myself, and Lela made it just as amazing as I imagine she does when she has a kitchen full of guests. She walked me, step by step, through the preparation of each dish (some of which I’ve already prepared back at home), and then she joined me for a meal in her backyard sanctuary. The table was beautifully set, and the food was delicious. We moved inside when it began to rain, and I appreciated Lela’s ability to pivot so quickly and be concerned about my comfort. What made the experience even more special is that we talked about shared travel experiences. Lela has traveled extensively and offered great travel recommendations. This was a wonderful way to end my last day in Fort Lauderdale. I had a great time, and I’d highly recommend this unique experience with Chef Lela!

    Good Jamaican cooking from SCRATCH!

Lela was so hospitable! It was a joy to meet her in her lovely home and learn about the culture and foods of Jamaica. She is truly a gifted and talented chef as well as a green thumb! Her garden of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers was a learning experience in and of itself. We literally witnessed her prepare everything from farm to table including graining her spice blend! I took notes but since my efforts may not be as delicious as hers, I’ll probably be back just to taste it again done the right way. Love, love, love this amazing dinner experience! My only regret was not getting anything to go!

Response from the operator: Leslye, Thank you so much for your review! I am so sorry you didn't get a to go plate.. Rain Check for you! Please give me a heads up whenever you're back in SoFlo..

    Awesome host and experience!

Leila was an amazing host! We loved the experience of the private setting. She is a very warm and professional host. She treated us like guests in her home as you would treat your friends and family. She shared so many Stories of Jamaica which was great. The food was absolutely amazing and we were so full before leaving. With us being foodies and cooks ourselves We still learned so much from her! We will definitely be back again when we visit Fort Lauderdale, which we do every year or two. This is a definite MUST do when visiting!

Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Fort Lauderdale.

How much does Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela cost?

    +

Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Fort Lauderdale usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Fort Lauderdale is not rushed.

Is Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Fort Lauderdale, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Fort Lauderdale can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Fort Lauderdale and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Island Cooking With Afrochef Lela start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Fort Lauderdale within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Fort Lauderdale?

    +

Fort Lauderdale sells canal and Millionaire's Row boat cruises, Everglades airboat trips, snorkel and dive charters on the reef, and Miami and Key West day trips. Boat size and reef conditions drive the quality of the water tours. On Outty we rank every Fort Lauderdale experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 1-Hour Interactive Pirate Cruise (arrive 30 minutes early), Fort Lauderdale Segway Tour, Half-day Everglades National Park Tour and 1-Hour Air Boat Ride. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Fort Lauderdale?

    +

November to April, with warm water year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Fort Lauderdale?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
