This Ice Fishing Trip will offer you a great chance to catch your breath in the silence of Lapland nature while experiencing a traditional activity that many locals like to practice. Our Ice Fishing Trip will take you to a frozen lake outside Rovaniemi. The place we choose for ice fishing not only offers a good chance to catch something but we also help restore ones tranquility and peace of mind. Many locals still practice this activity during the winter to catch food for themselves or their dogs and to enjoy the relaxing serenity of Lapland nature. On all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 travelers maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. As we usually say - the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!

If you believe Trump, this is for you

If you think are going fishing, well this is not for you. I’m pretty sure NO one has ever caught a fish. The fishing gear is plastic Temu crap. The guide is very much apart of the scam. He has no fishing experience. Hands down, the biggest scam on this site. My granddaughter was so disappointed - It’s very expensive in Findland and this experience leaves you feeling not just disappointed or a waste of time - but most important - Good lord mate, what ever happened to ethical behavior - you don’t treat kids like this! The little ones shouldn’t be used like this!!! Please stop this!!!

Response from the operator: Dear customer, We are very sorry that your granddaughter was disappointed not to catch a fish. We understand that, especially for a child, catching a fish would have been the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, this is something that neither we nor any ice fishing guide can guarantee. We would, however, like to clarify some of the comments in this review. Ice fishing is a traditional local activity in Lapland and is very different from the type of fishing many visitors may be familiar with. The small, simple rods used for ice fishing are the traditional type of equipment designed for fishing through a hole in the ice. The experience is not sold on the promise that every guest will catch a fish. It is about experiencing a traditional part of life in Lapland - going out onto the frozen lake, learning how ice fishing works, using the appropriate equipment and techniques, and, with some luck, catching a fish. As with any genuine fishing experience, sometimes the fish bite and sometimes they simply do not. For this reason, we strongly disagree with describing the experience as a “scam” or suggesting that our guide was participating in one. Not catching a fish is naturally disappointing, but it does not mean that the activity is fake or that our guide behaved unethically. We are especially sorry to read the suggestion that children are somehow being “used.” Families and children join this activity to experience something that is part of our local culture and winter lifestyle, and we would never knowingly make promises to children that nature may not fulfil. We absolutely respect that the experience did not meet your expectations, and we are sorry that your granddaughter left disappointed. At the same time, we believe it is important for other guests reading this review to understand what an authentic ice fishing experience involves - we can provide the location, equipment, guidance and experience, but we cannot guarantee what nature will provide on any particular day. We hope you had a great time in Finland and we hope that you managed to create nice memories with your family. Kind regards, Dominik Wild About Lapland

Awesome experience with an awesome guide

We spent the morning with our Guide Julieta after a lovely drive we arrived at our own exclusive teepee by the side of a frozen lake. We drilled our own holes in the ice and fished for an hour or so - it could have been longer but the fire, hot chocolate and fired cooked sausages with potato bread and Finnish mustard was too enticing. A highlight was learning to use a flint stick to start a fire with bark !! Loved the tour and Julieta couldn't do enough for us. She gave us heaps of time and dropped as at the Arktikum museum when back in town.

Excellent tour with an excellent guide

We loved this tour! While we did not catch any fish (which is common), we had a wonderful experience being on a frozen lake, manually drilling holes in the ice, and trying to fish with a tiny rod! The included campfire, sausage and hot drink were a bonus! Our guide Matu made the tour very educational and entertaining by sharing his experiences and information about the region.

    Great Fun Experience

The Ice Fishing trip was an experience - there were just the 4 of us in our group which was perfect. It was hard work drilling through the 1 meter thick ice but reassuring to know how thick it was! Then it's a case of sitting there and hoping. The other 2 people in our group did catch something but 'they got away'. It was great fun and I'm glad we did it.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for this nice review about your Ice Fishing Experience with Wild About Lapland. We are happy to hear that the tour met your expectations and you enjoyed this local activity in the middle of beautiful Arctic nature. Warm regards, Dominik Wild About Lapland

Ice Fishing Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rovaniemi.

How much does Ice Fishing Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $102 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rovaniemi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ice Fishing Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.

Is Ice Fishing Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 34 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ice Fishing Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ice Fishing Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ice Fishing Tour?

    +

Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ice Fishing Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rovaniemi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Small Group, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Ice Fishing Tour?

    +

Included: Ice Fishing gear and equipment; Light refreshments; Professional guide; All taxes, fees and handling charges; and Professional winter clothing and boots if needed. Not included: Lunch. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Where is the meeting point for Ice Fishing Tour?

    +

If you're staying in Rovaniemi city center, please walk to our office at Rovakatu 24 as we no longer provide city pick-ups, supporting sustainable tourism. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan your own transport and arrive 15 minutes early.

What languages is Ice Fishing Tour offered in?

    +

It runs in English. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.

Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Ice Fishing Tour?

    +

Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.

What happens to Ice Fishing Tour if the weather is bad?

    +

This experience depends on good weather. If it is canceled because of poor weather, you are offered a different date or a full refund.
