What you get
About this experience
Experience the sighting of Humpback Whales on a private tour from Punta Mita, one of the most exciting experiences in the Mexican Pacific during your season. You will sail in search of these marine giants in their natural habitat, in a safe, respectful and well organized route. During the tour you can watch whales very closely from the boat. Sometimes it is possible to appreciate surface behaviors such as blowing, flicking or jumping; however, these activities depend entirely on the animal’s natural behavior and cannot be guaranteed, as it is wildlife in freedom. The experience takes place on board a private boat for your group, departing from Punta Mita, and is suitable for all ages. The sighting season usually runs from December 8 or 9 to March 23 or 24.

Peak Whale Watching
Great experience, we had awesome views of the whales and our crew did really well in getting us up close and navigating.

Amazing experience!
We went on a whale watching tour with Grimar Adventures recently from Punta Mita and it was incredible. Seeing whales is obviously a bit of luck but our guides did an amazing job spotting whales from a distance and getting us closer to them. They were super knowledgeable and answered tons of questions we had. We got super lucky near the end of the tour and spotted a female, male, and baby all together jumping and splashing their fins and tails. It was incredible. A once in a lifetime sight. See the attached pics. I would definitely ride out with Grimar again. Highly recommended.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL!
We chose to go with Grimar Adventures because it was close by, the price was right, and the ratings were good. Once I saw the boat I was a little disappointed that it wasn't bigger. Once we got out to the whales, I realized that it was a gift to be in this size boat because we were able to be so close to them. Our family of 5 were the only ones on the boat and were well taken care of by David and Chewy. I felt the 2 hours out and back was just about right since we saw soo many whales!

So much fun!
We had an amazing time! We saw male female and baby whales the entire time! They were jumping and having a great time! One of a kind trip and we didn’t even have to go far off shore. Rueben and Chewy were a very good crew also. Highly recommend.

Epic Whale Watching Experience
We had an absolutely epic experience on our whale watching trip! We began seeing whale activity within 5 minutes of leaving the harbor and it continued for the entire 1 1/2 hour tour. The whales came so close that we could almost touch them and gave us a spectacular show with rolling, diving, and breaching repeatedly. Our guide, Ruben, told us that this was not typical - that we were very fortunate to see such a level of activity, and we felt truly blessed. In addition to the awesome show, we learned so much about the whales from Ruben, who is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. Absolutely a five-star experience that we would recommend highly!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.
How much does Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita cost?
+
Prices start at $5000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.
Is Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Humpback Whale Watching • Private Tour • Punta Mita start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
