HOP On HOP off...blue bus service
Great way to see 'everything' we started with the beaches to the 'Greek Riviera' then returned to base and used same service (same ticket) to see other parts of Athens. Buses are air-conditioned but also have option of rooftop (wear hat and sunscreen!) Very friendly operators and easy to hop off and get back on

Just don't!
We just walked up and bought tickets by the Arch of Hadrian. We said we were interested in visiting the port, but the man did not make clear how to do this, just kept saying yeswe go there. When we got on the bus, we felt the narrative on the headphones was very poor and, because he hadn't said we should change at the Acropolis (A4-P6) we stayed on the bus and then realised we were on a long route around the outskirts which we didn't want. it was clear from traffic this woud take a while, so we got off and got the Metro back to the centre - had lunch then went to find stop P5/A3 as per the map to catch the blue Piraeus line. We couldn't find the stop - there was no one to ask except an operator from another line. He couldn't understand the map so we decided to make the long walk uphill to the Acropolis P6/A4 stop. Just as we got there what we discovered was the last bus for Piraeus pulled away. The "Sights of Athens" man there told us that the stop we had been waiting at (P5/A3) didn't exist. When I showed it to him on our map he said - oh yes, but it doesn't really exist! Had we not waited there for around half an hour we wouldn't have missed the last bus! Utterly pointless, overly complicated and a complete waste of money. We cut our losses (40 Euros) and got on with our day.

Museum to visit, disappointing bus tour.
Few explanations during the bus tour. Long route and not very informative. Acropolis Museum is very interesting even for children.

Bus Driver and Customer Service leaves much to be desired..
We have benefited from the Bus Service with the purchase of a Mega Pass to Athens which includes 2 days of bus access as well as tickets to the Acropolis Museum. For the bus there are several lines connecting different points on Athens or to different beaches quite far from the city center. During our 2 days of access for the bus we took the beach line to reach the beach of Astri. We had no problems for the driveway but the return was not as easy.. In order to return to our base of departure (i.e. the acropolis) we wanted to take the return bus but the driver at the presentation of our ticket did not want to let us board. We tried to understand the reason for this refusal because we were perfectly in order: the ticket for 2 adults, has the right date, the right bus company... And I quickly realized that the driver did not speak any English and understood nothing, he was unable to understand the ticket and my explanations. He had just convinced himself that we had the wrong company and therefore did not want to let us go up... when absolutely everything was well informed... Visibly annoyed the latter made the decision to leave us on the pavement.. it was the last bus of the day so impossible to take the next one. I immediately called the company (Sight of Athene) to find a solution to return to the city center and they simply invited me to manage with public transport to get back. A shame. Of course I sent an email to Customer Service without receiving any feedback from them. Good job. To sum up, paying you a Service, you are a victim of the incompetence of a bus driver who does not even speak English at a minimum (for a tourist line it is an attic) and in the end you have to fend for yourself when you are left on the pavement. I would not recommend it at all.
