Wonderful experience with incredible views, food, and opportunity to learn about culture and society of Cuajimoloyas
We had an amazing day hiking in the Sierra Norte. It's stunningly beautiful and we learned so much about the area, Indigenous history and culture, and medicinal plants. The lunch in Caujimoloyas was one of the best meals we had in Oaxaca. A wonderful experience!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled you enjoyed your day in the Sierra Norte and learned about the region’s culture and traditions. It’s great to hear the meal in Caujimoloyas was a highlight too. Hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon!

Choose Coyote Aventuras as your guide - best tours ever
I can't rave about this company enough! We did the hike at Cuajimoloyas and also arranged a private half-day tour of Monte Alban. Our guide on the hike, Diego, was very knowledgeable about Mexican history, culture and politics and made the experience much more than just a hike. The hike was about 4.5 miles in a beautiful wooded area of the mountains, had a steep down section and then a steep up - so it was a bit hard to breathe at 10,000 feet, be aware of this. Overall not too hard. Fabulous lunch at the end of the hike. Carlos, the owner of the company, was our guide at Monte Alban, and he brought along an archeologist to answer all of our questions! This was an amazing experience, we learned so much more from Carlos and the archeologist than we would have on our own. Taken together, the two guided trips greatly deepened our appreciation for native cultures, languages, and history in Mexico. I would definitely recommend booking with this company!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your amazing review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed both experiences and that Diego and Carlos (along with the archaeologist) made them so enriching. It’s great to know the hike, the lunch, and the visit to Monte Albán all stood out. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again soon!

Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas Hike
As a returning customer with Carlos' company, we could not give a higher review for the experiences that I've had with Coyote Aventuras! When I come back to Oaxaca, will absolutely book another excursion with Carlos! Extremely professional, excellently service oriented and provides unimaginable experiences for you and your group! Can't wait to go back and do another trip with Carlos and his team. We did the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas hike - which lasted from 9AM-5PM (includes the 3 hour round trip commute from town up into the mountains). Was perfect for our bachelor party of 10 and had excellent transportation/car pickup from our hotel.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your continued trust and for such an incredible review! We’re really happy to hear the experience was a great fit for your group and that everything—from the hike to the transportation—met your expectations. Carlos and the whole team will be glad to hear your kind words. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another adventure soon!

Best tour in Oaxaca-don’t waste your money anywhere else
We spent the day on this beautiful home with a knowledgeable Coyote guide and a local guide from Cuayimoloyas. From the minute we left the city with our guide and driver, the amount of information and contact they gave us was more than we could get reading a dozen tour books. This was the highlight of our trip—we learned so much about every plant and its many uses from the local guide. We felt very connected to our guide by the end after several hours of hiking together. The views from the top are majestic and it was almost a spiritual experience. Afterwords we ate at a delicious and local (not overly touristy!) restaurant eating food clearly prepared with love. I’d do this tour again. Thanks for the opportunity to know so much about this area and the people and nature. It was a privilege.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful review! We’re truly happy to hear this was a highlight of your trip and that you felt such a strong connection with the experience, the guides, and the place. It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed learning about the plants, the hike, and the meal as well. We really appreciate your kind words and would love to welcome you back anytime!

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.
How much does Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas cost?
+
Prices start at $3600 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.
Is Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Hike in the Sierra Norte, Cuajimoloyas start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
