2. Travelers in Hida Takayama will stroll through a beautifully preserved old town often called “Little Kyoto,” where narrow streets are lined with wooden merchant houses dating back to the Edo period. They’ll have free time to explore traditional shops selling local crafts, sake breweries, and souvenirs, and to sample regional specialties such as Hida beef or Takayama ramen. Visitors can wander along the historic Sanmachi Suji district, admire the classic architecture, take photos of canals and bridges, and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of this mountain town while learning about its rich merchant history and local culture.
