    Takayama is a city located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. Takayama's old town has been beautifully preserved with many historic buildings and entire streets from the feudal era, when the city was a thriving merchant town. It is also referred to as "Little Kyoto in Hida". You can take a stroll on Sannomachi Street, which was built during the Meiji and Daisyo periods, and experience local cuisine represented by Hida beef and Takayama ramen. Enjoy the handicrafts made by Hida's craftsmen with their exceptional skills. Recommended spot: Takayama Morning Markets (Asaichi) The Miyagawa Market in the old town, and the Jinya-mae Market in front of the Takayama Jinya. The stands sell seasonal vegetables, fruits, and processed goods such as homemade pickled vegetables.
