    Highly recommend

Chef Huang (Pickle) was fantastic, very knowledgeable. He interacted well throughout the course. The market tour was a highlight and was not expected in a cooking class but welcomed. It was a very fun atmosphere and we left extremely full from the delicious food we cooked. Highly recommend this to anyone that’s visiting Hanoi.

    Foodies rejoice!

Foodies rejoice! A hands on cooking class with so many delightful moments. First we went through the local market to buy and try ingredients. Then off to the chefs’ training school ‘on location’ in the middle of a local residential community. It was like walking onto the set of a cooking show, but with a homely environment surrounding it. Chef Hung Pickles was brilliant to work with. Professional, skilled and personable. All the dishes were local specialties that were mouthwateringly delicious. We were taught many tips and tricks including making our own rice noodles. Over all a very memorable and worthwhile experience. Highly recommend!

A true taste of local food and culture!

I love cooking for family and friends, and especially with new foods and approaches learned from traveling to different countries. I signed up for a Vietnamese Cooking class, while my friend went on a tour. I was very fortunate to have Chef Pickle, with his passion and humor, as my teacher for this class at Butterfly. We made several dishes: beef Pho, crispy pork egg roll, papaya salad, and seasoned pork meatballs and grilled pork with herb and vegetables (the Obama favorite). After getting the beef bones flash boiled to clean and seasoned stock started, we headed to market where Chef Pickle lead us through the local delicacies like sour apple, fresh sea worms, and crispy BBQ pork belly! He gave us tastes of different things while browsing the market. It was a blast and a true taste of local culture! Back at the restaurant we all participated in the preparation of the dishes, while being coached by Chef, then settled down to enjoy our feast. It was all amazing and I couldn’t wait to try the recipes and the techniques once home.

Great cooking class with market tour

We had a great time in this cooking class. One of the highlights was going through the local market and picking out fresh ingredients. We mentioned that we love banh xeo, and our instructor was incredibly accommodating and adjusted the class so we could make it. We also learned how to make pho and fresh spring rolls, everything was delicious and clearly explained step by step. Highly recommend this class to anyone visiting Hanoi who wants a hands-on, authentic food experience.

Market tour and Cooking Class with Tien

The market tour and cooking class was exceptional. Tien took us through the Old Market and explained the many foods with delicious tastings along the way. Then we were guided step by step to prepare 4 dishes. Pho, spring rolls, green mango salad and Bun Cha. Finally we sat down to enjoy eating these amazing dishes and have a drink together. The cost was approximately $52 USD and the experience lasted 3 1/2 - 4 hours. I highly recommend this tour. Judy.

Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.

How much does Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien cost?

    +

Prices start at $55 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.

Is Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 38 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien?

    +

Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Hanoi Cooking Class and Market Tour with Chef Tien start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Hanoi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Hanoi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Hanoi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
