Mamula Fortress
The Mamula Fortress was built in 1853. At this time, Montenegro was under Austro-Hungarian rule. The fortress is named after the Austro-Hungarian general, Lazarus von Mamula. who commissioned the construction of the building. Mamula lays between two other fortifications from the same period – fort Arza, Luštica and Cape Ostro on the opposite side. The spot was chosen for its strategic position at the very entrance to the bay, but the story of Mamula didn’t end there. During both world wars, it was used as a prison due to its isolated position. The location gained a notorious reputation during World World 2, when the army of Benito Mussolini turned it into a concentration camp. Stories of unspeakable horrors can still be heard today. After this chapter in its history, the island and the fortification remained deserted for many years. Nowadays, Mamula is set to become a tourist resort; a project met with an ambiguous response from the locals due to the gloomy history of the place.

The Blue Cave is the largest of many sea caves on Lustica Peninsula. It’s called the Blue Cave because the way the light hits the sandy bottom and reflects up through the water makes the whole cave look blue. It’s very beautiful and it’s a lucky quirk because almost all of the coast here is rocky, not sandy. You can see the blue light shining out of the cave when you approach, but to really see it you’ve got to go inside and get underwater. Don’t forget your snorkel or goggles when you come here!

Our Lady of the Rocks
Our Lady of the Rocks is one of two gorgeous islands in the Kotor bay which are situated in the sea across Perast. The other island is the Island Sveti Djordje. Our Lady of the Rocks is an artificial island, which according to the stories was made by the seaman from Perast and Kotor, who on their big sail boats brought big stones. There is a church and according to a legend, a fisherman from Perast, after a shipwreck near the island, have found an icon of the Holy Mother of God with the Christ on a sea rock, so as the customs say they vowed to build a church on the island. They have built the church in 1630. As the island had to be maintained, the seaman continued to bring the stones, so that tradition is alive even today.

Waste of money and time
The yacht tour unfortunately left us with a very negative impression. First and most unpleasant was the situation during boarding. We were citizens of Kazakhstan and India, and we were told to board the yacht last, after all the other passengers had already taken their seats. As a result, we were left with the most uncomfortable places, basically sitting under the hot sun. This felt like discriminatory treatment based on nationality and left a very unpleasant impression. We ask the company to pay attention to this situation and ensure that all passengers are seated according to the seats included in their tickets, without any discrimination based on nationality. The second issue concerns the tour itinerary. When we purchased the tour, it was stated that approximately 30 minutes would be allocated for swimming in the Blue Lagoon/at the Blue Cave. This was actually one of the main reasons we chose this tour. However, in reality, the yacht simply entered the area and immediately left, without giving us any opportunity to swim. At the same time, we saw other boats where passengers were freely swimming in the same location. When we tried to ask about the reason, the captain started speaking to us aggressively and explained that he was afraid of losing his license and that swimming there was supposedly dangerous. This raises a reasonable question: why is swimming at this location advertised as part of the tour and included in the promotional materials if the service is not actually provided? For these reasons, we strongly do not recommend this yacht tour. We ask the company to pay attention to three important issues: treating all passengers with respect and equally, regardless of their nationality; organizing boarding according to the seats purchased; and, most importantly, actually providing all the services that are promised at the time of booking and stated in the tour's promotional materials.

Spectacular scenery on the water
The speed boat tour from Kotor to Perast goes through the spectacular Boka Bay with a stop at Our Lady of the Rocks. Perast is a cute, small town with a beautiful perspective on the surrounding water. While a half-day tour is short, I found it paced just right for getting a sense of this area and its surroundings. The boat was handled safely and extremely well. The tour went out of its way to accommodate a mobility issue, not only providing extra assistance but making sure to find entry and exit points that provided the smoothest available conditions for getting on and off the boat. Altogether a short but memorable experience. (For those not familiar with speedboats, there was quite a bit of traffic on the water and a certain amount of bumpiness was unavoidable when other boats drew near. This was not a problem for anyone on our tour, but could be if you are easily prone to seasickness.)

friendly staff, beautiful views and sea spray
Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to see unforgettable Montenegro from the sea. The ride was smooth, and we were allowed to sit on the bow of the boat, which allowed us to fully enjoy the views. I'd like to express my special thanks to Kristian – he not only kindly answered our questions about the organization but also helped me and my friends in a difficult situation by finding a taxi for us.
