About this experience
To speak English is one thing, but to be able to guide tours in clearly-spoken English is another Having lived in Chicago for over 12 years and conducted tours at the DUSABLE Museum of African-American History has given me an insight different from other tour guides and allows me to share my unique experience with people interested in Slave Trade History. This Pilgrimage destination has become one of the largest Slave Depot on the African continent. With the right guidance, you will get a clear picture of the last weeks of the Slaves before being shipped across the ocean to American destinations. The island is revered as more of a pilgrimage site. When you visit the infamous House of Slave, you will get an idea of the sad history of this lovely place but you will also learn the story of millions of Africans whose lives were traumatized, disrupted, and the atrocities that our Forefathers went through for over three centuries PS: REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU

What makes Gorée...
What makes Gorée especially special is its history. Walking through the island and visiting the House of Slaves is an emotional experience that makes you reflect deeply on the history of the transatlantic slave trade and the people who suffered through it. It is a place that should be visited with respect and an open mind.

An Unforgettable Experience in Senegal
I visited Senegal for the first time as a solo female traveller, so I was understandably a little nervous. From the moment I met Oumar, he made me feel completely at ease. He was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, which made the entire experience so much more enjoyable. His English was excellent, so communication was effortless throughout the trip, which was a concern of mine since I don't speak any French. The tour itself exceeded all my expectations. Oumar made sure I was able to see and do everything I had hoped for, while also sharing local insights and recommendations that I wouldn't have discovered on my own. He was flexible, patient, and always happy to answer my questions, making the experience feel both personal and authentic. As a solo traveller, feeling safe was incredibly important to me, and I felt comfortable and well looked after at all times. Thanks to Oumar, I was able to relax and fully enjoy everything Senegal has to offer. I can't recommend Oumar highly enough. If you're planning a trip to Senegal—whether you're travelling solo, with friends, or as a family—you won't regret booking with him. He played a huge part in making my first visit to Senegal such a memorable and unforgettable experience.

Highly recommend!
Oumar was an incredible and knowledgable guide. He is passionate about sharing Senegalese history and he makes you feel welcome. Having a private guide is such a great way to get the most of the experience and to learn more than you would if you went alone or with a large group.

Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dakar.
How much does Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $130 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dakar usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dakar is not rushed.
Is Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 32 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Dakar, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour?
+
Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dakar can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dakar and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half-Day GOREE Island Tour:The Heritage Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dakar within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Dakar?
+
On Outty we rank every Dakar experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Explore Dakar and Gorée Island full day, Taxi DSS to DAKAR,SALY,RIU HOTEL,SOMONE ( please check Options), Full-Day DAKAR city / GOREE Island Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Dakar?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Dakar?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
