Very disappointed! We built our day around our boat ride so basically ruined our day!

First they downsized the boat. Secondly as we sat in the parking lot waiting to board they cancelled our reservation altogether. They said the water was rough but it didn’t look rough at all.

Response from the operator: We are so sorry to have ruined your day, but the safety of our passengers is our number one priority. We typically try to give a minimum of 2 hours' notice (by email, text, and phone call), but unfortunately the weather can change on a moment's notice. We love to be on the water every day, so canceling a cruise is our least favorite thing to do. Hopefully you can cruise with us on a better weather day!

    Save your money and time!!

The worst guided tour EVER! There was extremely little narration, if any, and what there was, was hard to hear because there was no microphone. We were told there was a big event later in the day so the microphone/speakers were not available since they would be needed at the event. We saw as we were leaving the parking lot the event was being held in a pavilion, not on the ship. Waste of two hours of our vacation!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. It's painful to hear, but it does help us to improve, so for that we thank you. We hope you can join us sometime in the future when our main boat, The Discovery, is back in operation.

    Loved this boat ride!!

This was a great boat ride in Traverse City. We comfortable chairs and great views of everything. The captain and crew were very welcoming and friendly. We would go again.

Response from the operator: Thankyou Marcia, we’re absolutely delighted to receive your 5-star review! We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to our crew to inspire their ongoing commitment to excellence!

Maybe better when Discovery is repaired

Their regular boat was being repaired so we had a smaller ferry boat instead. It was fine except for the noise of the motor that made it hard to hear our tour guide. Maybe increase the volume on the mic. Maybe offer a discount or credit for a less than stellar boat. Also, the pic advertising the tour showed Bloody Marys. I was looking forward to one, but only had canned drinks. But the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly value hearing from our guests, as your comments help us continue to improve the experience we provide. Since The Discovery is temporarily out of service for extensive repairs, we made the difficult decision to lease another vessel rather than cancel our season entirely. Our hope was to continue sharing the beauty of West Grand Traverse Bay with our guests while keeping our dedicated crew working. While we've made every effort to communicate these changes before guests arrive, we recognize that our message doesn't always reach everyone as clearly as it should. We're truly sorry that this was your experience. We sincerely hope you'll give us another opportunity to show you the experience we originally intended to provide. We would love the chance to welcome you back aboard The Discovery and create the memorable outing you were expecting. Thank you again for your honesty, your patience, and for giving us the opportunity to make things right.

Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Traverse City.

How much does Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay cost?

    +

Prices start at $49 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Traverse City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Traverse City is not rushed.

Is Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 242 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Traverse City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay?

    +

Around 85 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Traverse City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Traverse City and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Guided Sightseeing Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Traverse City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Traverse City?

    +

Traverse City pairs Old Mission and Leelanau winery tours with Sleeping Bear Dunes trips, kayak and paddleboard rentals on Grand Traverse Bay and fall colour drives. On Outty we rank every Traverse City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 5-Hour Traverse City Wine Tour: 4 Wineries on Old Mission Peninsula, NON-BUS 4 Winery Traverse Wine Tour on Old Mission - ICE COLD AC, 5-Hour Traverse City Wine Tour: 3 Wineries on Leelanau Peninsula. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Traverse City?

    +

June to October, with peak colour in early October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Traverse City?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
