What you'll see and do
Ngong Hills
We drive you to a Kikuyu village near Nairobi, where Kenyan grandmas are often responsible for raising their grandchildren in their family when parents can no longer look after them. Sometimes up to 20 family members live in a grandmother’s one-room corrugated iron home, and the financial constraints are extremely challenging. But thanks to a pig-farming small business program supported by One Horizon the grandmas earn a sustainable source of income from pig-husbandry to feed their families. You meet the community’s warm and welcoming grandmothers, be shown around a pig farm and pitch in with the chores if you like, join in some joyful singing and dancing over a cup of local tea or chai, help cook lunch of beans and ugali (a maize flour dish eaten across East Africa), or learn how to make a chapati (soft layered bread). Your tour fees and visit support their training and this is a rare opportunity to support a grassroots social enterprise. A cultural tour in Kenya lime no other.

Go meet the Grannies!
Meeting ladies and their families was a humbling experience and a beautiful one that was as much a highlight as seeing the wildlife for the first time. The manager for this organization and his assistant (forgive me I don’t recall exact titles & names now) were terrific providing me with an in depth explanation of how it works and the impact it has had to change lives. The “Grannies” were each so opened-hearted and gracious. I was honored to hear their stories. It’s been 2 years since I did this and I still think of it and so grateful to have had this experience. I recommend it to everyone. Viator doesn’t give me an option for Oct 2022, so picked Oct 2023, but that isn’t accurate.
Response from the operator: So glad that you enjoyed your time with us and that you still think of your time with our communities. Thank you so much for your support and we look forward to seeing you again when you are next in Kenya. Regards and best wishes

A fabulous project giving a fascinating insight into the lives of Kenya families.
An inspiring trip with One Horizon showing how communities can be transformed with a little help and encouragement. We had a fascinating tour with 2 grandmother pig farmers and their families, hearing their stories and how One Horizon's pig farming project has transformed their lives. Please support Colin and One Horizon 's projects by taking one of their tours, you will get a real insight into the lives of Kenyans.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your encouraging words. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us. Hope to see you again someday when you are back in Kenya. Regards the ONE Horizon team.

Inspirational
One Horizon has established a great program to help women who’ve endured a great deal get back on their feet to try to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families. The stories you’ll hear are compelling and listening to the rationale of the program itself provides a lot of insight into certain parts of Kenyan life. My children enjoyed the chance to make chapati and feed the pigs as well, so the whole trip works on multiple levels.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to both visit us and providing the feedback. It was a pleasure to have you with us. Keep safe and well and we do hope to see you again some time in KENYA. Regards - ONE HORIZON AFRICA

Top organisation merging high quality tours with life-changing charity work. Truly memorable.
I had grand plans on arrival in Kenya to do a couple of the One Horizon tours, however had issues with their booking system only booking for the day after tomorrow. This led to phone calls with owner-operator Colin, who was able to accomodate me with both tours I wanted in a half-day personalised tour. I was met by Carol at my hotel and travelled to meet mothers with HIV thriving thanks to a two-year rehabilitation program that teaches them trade and entrepreneurial skills so they can set up their own business to support their families. There I also met Solomon (and Colin, briefly) and together we travelled on to meet two grandmothers thriving off pig-farming and able to support their families for the first time in their lives. I honestly could write tons about these experiences, but I will keep it to this: being a development graduate, I know what good charity and bad charity looks like. Colin gets in there and asks what is needed in the community and then makes it happen. The programs come from the community and the community thrives because of it. This is charity at its best. All of the women but particularly the warm hospitality shown by the grandmothers and Carol and Solomon over a lunch we made together, hearing stories about Kenyan life, the struggles, was probably the single best tourism experience I ever had. Carol and Solomon answered every question I had and then some, and I felt so inspired by their hard work and dedication. Travelling for another two months across Africa this tour remained my number one experience and takeaway of what Africa is. I cannot recommend One Horizon highly enough.

Memorable and powerful experience for my family
One Horizon provided my family and I with an amazing experience. We met 2 powerful and inspiring grandmothers who have benefited from their involvement in the One Horizon program. We got to spend time with the women, learned to make chapati, enjoy chai and hear their powerful stories of how they broke the cycle of poverty. Truly memorable for my 2 kids, ages 9 and 11, as well as for my husband and I.
Response from the operator: Really happy that you enjoyed the day and that tour family enjoyed it as well. Thank you for your support and we look forward to hopefully seeing you again. Safe travels

How much does Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya cost?

How long does Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya take?
+

Is Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Nairobi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya?
+

Is Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Nairobi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Nairobi and add a light layer if any part of the 6.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Go Granny Go - An Amazing Cultural Tour in Kenya start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Nairobi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Nairobi?
+
On Outty we rank every Nairobi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Wild 5-Day Safari: Magical Mara, Nakuru Wonders & Hell's Gate, 2 Days Amboseli Safari using a 4x4 Landcruiser jeep(with options), Kibera Slum Tour with Lucas. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Nairobi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Nairobi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
