1. Belfast

   Belfast provides the gateway to the Causeway Coastal Route. Depending on the collection point and available time, the experience may include a brief panoramic introduction to Belfast before travelling along the shores of Belfast Lough. The city’s maritime setting gradually gives way to historic towns, open coastline and the first great views of County Antrim.

2. Carrickfergus Castle

   Standing beside Belfast Lough, Carrickfergus Castle marks the traditional gateway to the Causeway Coastal Route. This imposing Norman stronghold is one of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval castles. Its stone walls, towers and waterfront position reflect more than 800 years of Irish history. Depending on the itinerary, Carrickfergus may be included as an interior visit or a shorter exterior and photographic stop.

3. Causeway Coastal Route

   From Carrickfergus, the journey follows the celebrated Causeway Coastal Route northwards along County Antrim’s eastern shoreline. This remarkable road passes beneath steep cliffs and beside the Irish Sea, connecting historic castles, quiet glens, fishing harbours and traditional coastal villages. On clear days, the distant Scottish coastline can sometimes be seen across the water. The road itself is one of the defining experiences of the tour.

4. Glenarm Castle

   Glenarm is an elegant coastal village situated at the entrance to one of the nine Glens of Antrim. Its harbour, stone buildings and peaceful village streets make it a charming introduction to the Antrim coast. Glenarm Castle and its celebrated Walled Garden may be included as an extended seasonal visit when time and opening arrangements permit.

5. Carnlough

   Carnlough is one of the most picturesque villages on the Causeway Coastal Route. Its sheltered stone harbour sits beneath the slopes of Glencloy, with fishing boats, waterfront buildings and views across the Irish Sea creating a wonderfully peaceful setting. Carnlough Harbour is an excellent location for a short walk, refreshments or photographs. It is also recognisable to television fans as a filming location used in Game of Thrones.

6. Garron Point

   Beyond Carnlough, the road curves around Garron Point and enters the magnificent Glens of Antrim. The landscape rises steeply from the sea, opening into green valleys, wooded slopes, waterfalls and distant mountain views. This section of the journey provides some of the day’s most beautiful scenery and reveals a quieter, deeply traditional side of County Antrim.

7. Cushendall

   Known as the heart of the Glens, Cushendall is a welcoming village surrounded by the hills and valleys of the Antrim countryside. Its village streets, traditional pubs and strong connection with Irish music and culture make it a worthwhile stop for guests interested in the living traditions of the region. Depending on timing, Cushendall may be included as a refreshment, lunch or short walking stop.

8. Cushendun Village

   Cushendun is a peaceful seaside village set near the mouth of the River Dun. Its distinctive architecture, beach, harbour and village paths create a charming setting beneath the surrounding glens. A short walk may also be taken to the Cushendun Caves. Formed naturally within the coastal rock, the caves are particularly recognisable to fans of Game of Thrones.

9. Ballycastle

   Ballycastle is a colourful harbour town at the eastern end of the North Antrim coast. Its seafront, beach, independent shops and traditional pubs make it an excellent option for lunch or a relaxed break during the journey. From the harbour, visitors can look across towards Rathlin Island. On exceptionally clear days, the Scottish coastline may also be visible beyond the sea.

10. Carrick A Rede Rope Bridge

    Suspended high above the Atlantic Ocean, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge connects the mainland with the small rocky island of Carrick-a-Rede. First erected by salmon fishermen more than 250 years ago, the bridge offers an exhilarating crossing and remarkable views of the surrounding cliffs, islands and clear coastal waters. Reaching the bridge requires a coastal walk. Crossing is optional and must be booked in advance. It remains subject to ticket availability, weather, wind conditions and the guests’ mobility and comfort with heights. Guests who prefer not to cross may still enjoy the surrounding coastal scenery and viewpoints. Admission to the Visitor Centre is £16 per adult. Tickets can be purchased on site.

11. Ballintoy Harbour

    Reached by a winding road descending from Ballintoy village, Ballintoy Harbour is one of the most atmospheric locations on the North Antrim coast. The small working harbour is surrounded by sea stacks, rocky islands, limestone cliffs and powerful Atlantic scenery. Its distinctive landscape has also appeared prominently in Game of Thrones. Even without its television connection, Ballintoy remains one of the most beautiful photographic stops on the coastal route.

12. White Park Bay

    White Park Bay is a magnificent sweep of pale sand backed by ancient dunes and open countryside. The bay offers panoramic views across the North Atlantic and provides a peaceful contrast to the cliffs, castles and rocky harbours found elsewhere along the route. Depending on time and weather, it may be included as a viewpoint, photographic stop or a short coastal walk.

13. Giant's Causeway

    More than 40,000 interlocking basalt columns descend towards the Atlantic Ocean, creating one of the most remarkable natural landscapes anywhere in Ireland. The columns were formed by volcanic activity approximately 60 million years ago. Irish legend offers a more colourful explanation, telling how the great warrior Fionn mac Cumhaill, or Finn McCool, built the causeway across the sea towards Scotland. Guests will have time to walk to the famous stones, explore the coastal landscape and learn about the extraordinary meeting of geology, mythology and natural history. The Giant’s Causeway was Ireland’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admission to the Visitor Centre is £16 per adult. Tickets can be purchased on site.

14. Bushmills

    The historic village of Bushmills lies only a short distance from the Giant’s Causeway. Its traditional streets, welcoming inns, cafés and restaurants make it an excellent option for lunch or refreshments. The village is internationally associated with Irish whiskey and provides a natural connection between the Giant’s Causeway and the final locations along the North Antrim coast.

15. Bushmills Distillery

    Guests with an interest in Irish whiskey may choose to include the Old Bushmills Distillery. A guided experience introduces visitors to the copper pot stills, triple-distillation process and generations of knowledge behind Bushmills Irish whiskey. Distillery tours and tastings must be arranged in advance and remain subject to availability, age requirements and the time available within the wider itinerary.

16. Dunluce Castle

    Dunluce Castle stands upon a dramatic basalt outcrop high above the Atlantic Ocean. First built by the MacQuillan family around 1500 and later becoming a stronghold of the MacDonnell clan, the castle witnessed centuries of rivalry, rebellion and political change. Its ruined walls, coastal position and stories of lost kitchens, storms and a resident banshee make Dunluce one of Ireland’s most evocative castle sites. Depending on opening hours and available time, Dunluce may be included as a complete interior visit or as an exterior and photographic stop.

17. The Dark Hedges

    Planted during the 18th century, the Dark Hedges form a remarkable avenue of mature beech trees whose branches meet above the road to create a natural tunnel. The avenue became internationally known after appearing as the Kingsroad in Game of Thrones. The Dark Hedges may be included as an optional inland variation during the outward or return journey, depending on time, traffic and access arrangements.
