Fantastic and fulfilling 3-day trek to experience the Himalaya/Annapurna conservation area

Our 3 day trek starting from Nayapul was a fantastic experience, climbing through the mountains to reach Poon Hill early on the morning of day 3 before descending back down on foot at first and then by jeep, experiencing the winding mountain tracks to the full. The people and accommodation were all very friendly (despite the chilly January nights), and we enjoyed the traditional meals at the teahouses, which were tasty and plentiful. The landscape was spectacular and always interesting, through mountain paths, villages and farms. Climbing over 2000m in less than 48 hours was hard work at times, but we were carefully guided at a pace suitable for 60 year olds! We were also fortunate to see monkeys in the wild thanks to the observational skills of out guide Kapil, who looked after us diligently all the way. An amazing and highly recommended trek for those with limited time and wanting a challenging but not extreme trip.

Breathtaking views and an amazing team!

We have absolutely loved our Poon Hill trek. The views and trail are breathtakingly beautiful but honestly, it is thanks to our guide, Robbie, that it has been such a special experience. Everything has been so well organised and we have felt so well looked after. Nothing is too much trouble for Robbie and he makes everything feel easy. We have got to know each other, learned a lot and had fun together! Rahman was our porter and again, he has been wonderful, friendly and super helpful. We really appreciated his support! I would recommend this trek to anyone who is considering it. Don’t be put off when you read about the steps, even they were much easier than we expected but the trek is still challenging enough to feel like an achievement. We will never forget this experience and the beautiful Nepalese nature we’ve been lucky enough to see! Thank you so much Robbie and Rajan!

Solo Traveller on her first ever trek!

I had a wonderful experience as a solo traveller on the Poon Hill Trek. I was lucky enough to have Hom as my guide and he made sure I had a good experience. I can't describe how well looked after I felt. I'd never done anything like this before and Hom made me feel super secure. He was deeply knowledgeable about everything, kind and constantly worked to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. I never once felt unsafe and Hom also adapted the trek where needed and so we took some exciting alternative routes through other areas which really added to the experience. If you want to trek with a reliable company and you're a newbie, you won't get much better than Outfitter Nepal (and Hom!).

Best way to trek Nepal, hands down!

I had the best Nepal trek with my guide Ravi! I had been recommended to do the trek with Outfitter Nepal and it did not disappoint. I did the Mohare Dande trip for 5 days as a solo female and felt safe the entire time. Raj, the owner invited me to come to the office in Kathmandu a few days prior and made sure I had everything sorted and answered all my questions. Ravi, the guide and porter Roman met me the evening before at my hotel and gave me a duffel bag and anything else I could need. Ravi has been doing treks for over 20 years and had immense local knowledge, I got to try all of the local vegetables with my daal baht and I had a very immersive experience. An experience I would not have had if I hadn’t had Ravi as my guide. He also was amazing at taking all the photos and knew all the best spots. Could not recommend this trek more, recommend to anyone wanting to experience a local trek in Nepal.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek cost?

    +

Prices start at $450 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek take?

    +

Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 55 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 120-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek?

    +

Around 19 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kathmandu Sightseeing | UNESCO World Heritage sites Private/Group, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek: Private Group & Discounte Price. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
