This fortified city is one of the most famous of all tourist destinations in South East Asia. Right on the South-Western tip of the Island its harbor was the main hub for trade and commerce for thousands of years. It has great significance for its cultural, historical, and geographical value. The Portuguese were the first to build a fort to protect their naval fleet and their spice trade, with first the Dutch and then the British taking eventual control. Great Day Out
Booked through Bentota Travel Mart from the UK. Collected from the hotel at the allocated time and taken to the River Safari. This lasted 2 hours and was excellent. Went deep into the mangroves and saw lots of birdlife, lizards and a few crocodiles. Stopped at a place were they look after baby crocs and had the opportunity to hold a baby one for a small donation. After the river it was a short trip to the Sea Turtle conservation project which was also very good, if a little smaller than I was expecting. On the way to lunch we stopped at the Tsunami museum. A very thought provoking and emotional place run by a woman who lived through the disaster. Not something that is done for entertainment but I think every visitor to Sri Lanka should visit this given the opportunity. After a lovely lunch we had a quick (5 minute) visit to the Stilt fishermen just to take a photo. By the is time we were hot and tired so decided to forego the walk around Galle although our driver (Dinesh) did give us a mini driven tour. Excellent trip all round, can happily recommend Bentota Travel Mart for this trip

Experience of a lifetime - not to be missed!
We booked this trip with Bentota travel through Trip advisor whilst at home and they couldn’t have been more helpful or professional if they tried! The communication was excellent and the pick up went as planned - we had a delightful walk around the baby turtle conservation project followed by what can only be described as a brilliant Bentota River safari! Getting to see water monitors, crocodiles and chameleons in their own habitat was great and to have the opportunity to hand feed wild monkeys was the icing on the cake! Our driver today was Dinesh who was really friendly and knowledgeable Can’t recommend this tour enough!

Wonderful tour.
The river safari was absolutely fabulous. We saw crocs, monkeys, kingfishers, chameleon, water monitors and an eagle. Our driver was great and very helpful. We have loved everything. I particularly enjoyed the Buddhist temple.

Special day out
We booked this trip with Bentota Travel Mart whilst still in the UK via Sam. He was very helpful and answered all our queries promptly. Once we were in Sri Lanka, Sam contacted us via WhatsApp with all the arrangements. The river safari was amazing with Harindra, he was very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to go to see the wonderful wildlife. It is a photographers dream. On from that we visited a mask museum where we were given a tour & explanation of exactly what the masks symbolise. We then visited a tsunami museum, the lady that runs it was very passionate and emtional as she told the story of the devastation of that day. We then visited the Dutch fort at Galle. We thought this town was just for tourists and we prefer the local side of Sri Lanka but it is well worth a visit. We then visited the famous stilt fisherman, one of them even caught a fish. The special event at the end of the day was seeing the sea turtle sanctuary. Some of the turtles had been injured but were being looked after and if possible returned to the sea. There were some two day old turtle which we got to release into the water. It was so special and a memory we won't forgot. Bentota Travel Mart have arranged a few trips for us during our visit to Sri Lanka and they have been professional, courteous and helpful. Their communication is excellent and we couldn't fault them. Sam you are great and our driver Ishan was brillant.
