Another last minute cancellation by the tour company for a similar dubious reason
Like other cooking tour (CEYLON Rustic market & hand-on Cooking Tour Sunday Aug 8, 2026), this one also canceled on me at the last minute with similar reason. That was how I catched on the dubiousness of these businesses. I just want straightforward honesty and some regulation in running their businesses. If I cancel after certain period, I lose my money, but their last minute cancellation has no consequence. Wasting my time, effort, monetary expenses. Great disappointment and causing so much stress and distorting my view of this country. I ran into outright accounting cheating in India from a supposedly “reliable” tour company (booked by my husband local co-workers); a hotel in Halong Bay, VietNam, where it refused to honor a booking for a solo young lady by forcing her to room with a male stranger and the notorious no-shame outrageous demands “coffee money” in bribery (10 or 20 USD is not enough, even 24 years ago) at the airports there. China, where a local tourist hotel changed our prebooked & paid for superior room with an inferior and smaller room forcing our adolescent children to bunk in a single cot, instead of a double and two singles…. Stories like these ruin the tourism for the country. I refuse to return to these countries, especially VN, even though I still have relatives and childhood friends there. I wish them well if the story is true.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, We are sorry to hear about your disappointment and the frustration described in your review. We would, however, like to clarify an important point. Incredible and tasty way to be introduced to Sri Lankan cuisine
What an absolute treat! Dinuka was very knowledgeable and took time and care to ensure I had an amazing experience. Preparing a meal in a locals' kitchen was such a fun and unique experience. Being able to learn traditional methods and create such amazing flavors was incredibly rewarding and delicious. Dinuka and his family were so warm and welcoming elevated the experience far surpassing my expectations. I would 1000% recommend this experience!!

The best Sri Lankan hospitality experience you could ask for!
If you’re looking for an authentic Sri Lankan experience, this is it! Dinuka and Deepa were such wonderful hosts and made me feel welcome from the very beginning. The experience started with a visit to Pettah Market, where we explored the fresh produce and ingredients before heading back to their home to cook eight delicious Sri Lankan dishes together. They were incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all of my questions. I loved that it wasn’t just a cooking class - it was a genuine cultural exchange. We spent so much time chatting about our different cultures, discovering how many similarities we shared, and learning from each other. After cooking, we all sat down and enjoyed the meal together, which made the experience feel even more special. I never felt rushed - in fact, I ended up spending much longer than scheduled because everyone was so welcoming and generous with their time. We finished the day with a tea tasting ant the local tea shop. Dinuka was a fantastic guide, going above and beyond to make sure I had the best experience possible. This was so much more than a cooking class. It felt like spending the day with friends and getting a real insight into Sri Lankan food, culture, and hospitality. Without a doubt, one of the highlights of my trip.

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Negombo.
How much does G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine cost?
+
Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Negombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Negombo is not rushed.
Is G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Negombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Negombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Negombo and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does G Dinu Colombo Cooking Class Market Tour & Home Style Cuisine start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Negombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Negombo?
+
On Outty we rank every Negombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Car & Driver for 07 Days Tour In Sri Lanka, Most Popular Round Tour in Sri Lanka (10 Days), Highly recommended multi day tour in Sri Lanka. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Negombo?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Negombo?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
