    About this experience

I am a NAI certified guide with over 300 sunrises on Haleakala and 200 loops around Hana. My Father-in-law is John Keanaaina Hoku award winning music artist. He has bee in Hawaii since the 1940s and his feelings about Hawaii might surprise you. I’m also CDL licensed and usually have 25 people on a tour. The fact that it’s just our group gives a much deeper experience and the lack of crying infants is always a bonus.. I have studied photography and will take hundreds of photos and also make you a video at the end of the day. Your health is important and this tour with just your group will provide that safe environment. If you would like to see some more photos from my adventures my IG and FB are Mauihoppin.

    Accommodating & reputable

We scheduled a half day to Hana & the Haleakala Crater sunset tour with Erik. He was very informative about the tour & was able to fit me in a few weeks before the tour. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip to Hawaii at the last minute & Erik was very understanding & immediately refunded me the full amount of the tour. When we get the opportunity to return to Hawaii I will definitely rebook with Erik again!

Response from the operator: Mahalo for the kind words! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, even though your trip didn’t end up happening. I’m glad I could make the planning process smooth and be there for you when things didn’t go as expected—that’s always the goal. Hawaiʻi will be here when the timing is right, and I’d love to show you around when you make it back. Until then, wishing you all the best and safe travels wherever you go next! 🌺 —Erik

    Magic Maui

Had an amazing day with Erik and his dad on the road to Hana. We got to see waterfalls have an amazing banana bread and it was the highlight of our trip.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to write kind words that really means a lot to me. My family and MAui may Aloha fill your life.

Just an extra on my trip to Hana

Keep in mind this will not be a trip that is focused on what you would like to see and do. You will see thier home garage, twice because they are not prepared. You can watch Erik jump off a cliff. Get fuzzy pictures. Plus a headache from having to be squeezed in the way back so daddy can be comfy. Don't expect a refund because he can't admit he mite be wrong. There are lots of others you can go to. Do get a driver. Just be careful whom you choose.

Response from the operator: Aloha, Thank you for your feedback—I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I do want to gently clarify a couple of things for future guests reading this. The tour you booked was not a private tour, though it certainly may have felt like one since there was only one other guest (instead of up to seven). That guest also spent more than half the day riding in the front seat. Regarding seating, I always do my best to keep everyone comfortable, but I can’t assign family dynamics 😊. I was a bit surprised to hear that your 72-year-old mother ended up in the back seat for a short portion of the trip, as that’s typically something coordinated within your own group. As for the quick stop at my home—living out here, ice melts fast in the tropical heat! I stop briefly to refresh drinks and snacks so everything stays cold for guests. This has never been an issue before and is done with everyone’s comfort in mind. I also want to address the refund request. From time to time, I do encounter situations where guests mention a refund alongside a potential review. While I always take feedback seriously and happily make things right when I’ve made a mistake, I didn’t feel that was the case here. We have terms for this review extortion , Reputation blackmail, bad faith reviewer unfortunately becoming more common That said, I’m genuinely sorry the experience didn’t meet your expectations. I’m glad we were still able to share some beautiful moments together, and I wish you all the best on your future travels.

Road to Hana with Maui Hoppin

Just got off Pride of America cruise. What a great trip! Shout out to Eric of Maui Hoppin tours for the road to Hana! He did a great job for the tour, stopped for turttle viewing, then at water falls but not much water due to being so dry, he jumped anyway. We had banana bread, pineapple snack, then stopped for some great ice cream before stopping at Hāna for lunch. On the way back we stopped at the black beach and lava tube, great photos. We had a great time. Thanks Eric!

Response from the operator: Wow, you’re not only wrote a review on the ship you wrote one here as well I don’t know if anyone has done that before I really appreciate the time and effort it makes a bunch of difference. I got a ton of bookings this week because of it and I really appreciate it may aloha fill your life.

Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Maui.

How much does Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $159 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Maui usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Maui is not rushed.

Is Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Maui, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Maui can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Maui and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full-Day Road to Hana and Waterfall Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Maui within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Maui?

    +

Maui's three signature days are the Hana road, the Haleakala summit sunrise and the Molokini snorkel sail, and all three are logistics problems as much as experiences. Sunrise summit entry is permit-controlled, Hana is a ten-hour driving day, and Molokini boats vary wildly in size. Our ranking rewards operators who handle permits and keep boat capacity low. On Outty we rank every Maui experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Molokini Crater + South Maui Coast Adventure from Kihei, Maui, Maui: VIP Private Road to Hana Tour with Pick Up, West Maui Snorkeling Experience by Boat from Ka'anapali. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Maui?

    +

April to May and September to October. Whale season runs December to April. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Maui?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
