Covered all the highlights

Rose was an excellent guide, very friendly and informative. Amina, the guide at the spice farm was also very good. The tour ended up taking 9 hours rather than 8, as we were allowed to do things at our own pace.

Maybe good for taxi? If picked from Nungwi

I booked the night before my trip and Tripadvisor was great to assist me getting in contact with the agent (Mango). However, there were a few things I wasn't happy about. 1. The company never contacted me regarding the pickup time (luckily Tripadvisor did), but they were still 30 min late. 2. This was booked as a private tour, and when I got picked up, they informed me that I would have to do a shared tour or be left with no tour. The Mango agent kept saying, " Well, I am doing you a favour by picking you up from Nungwi, so you have to do me a favour by going on a shared tour!" (despite me paying the extra fee for private and the other 2 people being picked up in Nungwi as well) - they refused to give a partial refund. 3. SPICE MARKET: They took us to a different Spice Market (not Jambo). This market is FREE - it was very small. What I didn't like was the guides who DEMANDED we left them a tip (even though I didn't have cash). They got very upset with me (even though I explained that I had been scammed and I needed to go to an ATM before) I also felt uncomfortable with the agents kept saying I was very beautiful etc etc I get you want a tip, but maybe not that much. 4. PRISON ISLAND (with Snorkelling): I got a private guide called Cosmo - he was nice but left me wandering alone a fair few times on my own and asked me if I wanted to know anything about the island - which, for a guide, I would have expected him to share without me asking "what I wanted to know". He also told me a few times how beautiful I was and asked if I would date a Muslim guy (like him) - which was a bit weird to ask. I was supposed to go snorkelling after Prison Island, but he didn't know about it and didn't have a mask or fins - He was kind enough to ask around other boats, but the mask was broken, and they didn't have fins, so I only swam 15min and I had to change when the boat was driving back. 5. SLAVE MARKET: This was a free activity as well - After the prison island walk, our boat driver had disappeared, so we waited for him 40 min on the island, which made the Slave Market visit shorter, and I missed the Freddy Mercury museum entry. At the end, the driver kept calling Cosmo to hurry us up and return to Nungwi. I felt rushed, missed a lot of things and didn't gain much information about it. I think with the right timing it would have been great - I would recommend skipping the Spice Market, as it was a tourist trap and they were aggressive towards getting a tip (even if you didn't want anything, no food, no drinks, etc)

Great tour, must book!!

Amina was an amazing guide! She was so knowledgeable on the history and culture of Tanzania and Zanzibar. Took amazing pictures and even taught me a few Swahili phrases. I would definitely recommend booking with her!

A great way to see Stone Town

Amina was delightful and very knowledgeable about Stone Town and Zanzibar’s history. I had a great day and would highly recommend this tour and Amina in particular. Also how cute are the tortoises!

Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zanzibar City.

How much does Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zanzibar City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zanzibar City is not rushed.

Is Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 253 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Zanzibar City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 8-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour?

+

Around 89 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zanzibar City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zanzibar City and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full-Day Private Stone Town +Spice Farm and Prison Island Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zanzibar City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Zanzibar City?

+

On Outty we rank every Zanzibar City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 4h Quad Adventures in Zanzibar: Nungwi / Kendwa Transfer inclus, Stone Town Private Walking Tour, Zanzibar Adventure Quad with Sunset and Transfer Included. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Zanzibar City?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Zanzibar City?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
