    What you'll see and do

    1. Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque

We will begin your tour of the Sultanahmet district, the heart of old Istanbul, at Hagia Sophia. Built by the Emperor Justinian in the early 6th century AD and designed by Anthemius of Tralles and Isodore of Miletus, the church is one of the marvels of world architecture. Converted into a mosque in 1453, it is now a museum. Its massive dome still dominates the skyline of old Istanbul. It is also famed for its mosaics, including glittering portraits of emperors and empresses and a poignant Virgin and Child.

      60 minutes here

    2. Blue Mosque

Next, we visit the Blue Mosque which takes its name from the exquisite tiles adorning its interior. Built by Sultan Ahmet I in the early 17th century and designed by a pupil of Sinan, the greatest of Ottoman architects, it is the only imperial mosque with six minarets. Its courtyard is especially grand.

      45 minutes here

    3. Hippodrome

The Hippodrome, the stadium of ancient Byzantium, held 100,000 spectators and featured objects from all corners of the empire. Of these, an Egyptian obelisk and a bronze sculpture of three entwined serpents from Delphi survive.

      45 minutes here

    4. Grand Bazaar

The Grand Bazaar was the commercial heart of the old city and its 4,000 shops are full of treasures including carpets and kilims, silks, jewelry, ceramics, icons, and leather goods. Wandering through the Grand Bazaar, indulge in some shopping, Ottoman style.

      60 minutes here

    5. TopkapI Palace

In the afternoon we continue our tour at Topkapi Palace, which, from the 15th to the 19th century, was the principal residence of the Ottoman Sultans. We will visit the fabulous Imperial Treasury and the Baghdad Kiosk. Topkapi Palace is now a museum and has unrivalled collections of jewelry, including the Spoonmaker’s Diamond, the 3rd largest in the world. It also possesses numerous Ottoman court costumes and ceramics, notably including one of the world’s finest collections of Chinese celadon ceramics, many of which were gifts from other rulers. Interestingly, some of the ceramics have a special glaze that was said to change color in the presence of poison. We also visit the Imperial Armory, displaying centuries of Ottoman weaponry. But perhaps the loveliest feature of Topkapi Palace are its courtyards with their ancient trees; it is easy to imagine the sultan strolling here far from the cares of state and empire.

    6. Basilica Cistern

There are hundreds of ancient cisterns hidden underneath the streets and houses of Istanbul. Of the two that are open to the public, the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) is the largest and Istanbul’s most unusual tourist attraction. Contrary to James Bond, who had to row his way through Istanbul underground cistern in From Russia with Love, you can take a stroll in the forest of hundreds of marble columns and enjoy the subterranean cool on a hot summer day.

11 day Turkey Insiders tour (organised by Tugce)

We did an amazing 11 day Turkey Highlights tour with Turkey Insiders - covering Istanbul, Gallipoli, Troy, Pamukkale, Ephesus, and Cappadocia. 🤩 Really well organised by Tugce, with local expert guides in each location. A few times it was just us for a private tour! The guides helped us with everything and skipped the queues (avoiding hours of waiting at some of the sights) and gave us so much useful information. Accomodation was excellent (we had the top package) and logistics was seamless. Tugce gave us some great advice and we went to places we would never have known about. Very highly recommend Tugce and Turkey Insiders!

    Fantastic experience

I went to Turkey with a friend of mine for a special birthday. Our coordinator, Tugce, put together an extremely well organized tour for several locations throughout Turkey. This included Istanbul, Ephesus, Pamukkale, and Cappadocia. It involved all hotels, pickups, tours, and domestic flights. Extremely smooth logistics. All guides were outstanding with 6 years of study and a license and attended to our every comfort. The cars were large and comfortable. Our guides that each deserve a special thank you are as follows. Sercan - Istanbul guide Ismail - Pamulkkale guide Onur - driver Jihan - driver for flight pickup, Ephesus and flight drop off to Cappadoccia Yasin - Ephesus Ibrahim - Cappadoccia guide Ahmet - Cappadoccia guide Tiny Ay our guide to seeing the air ballons Alaattin - Kusadasi driver

    Outstanding experience

I just finished a tour of Turkey, arranged through this organization. It was a fantastic experience, start to finish. I worked with Tugce Tavukcuaglu, who was extremely well organized and did a great job of putting together an itinerary that suited my needs. All of the local vendors she used were very punctual and reliable. They arrived on time to pick me up and did a great job giving me a comprehensive tour. I really liked the fact that Tugce reached out to me every day during the tour to give me the name and photo of my local contact for the following day as well as the pick up times. She was always available in the event of a problem. I highly recommend this organization if you wish to visit the country, but don’t want to be on an organized tour for the entire duration. In my case, some of the tours were private and some were small group tours – around 8 to 10 people on average.

Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Istanbul.

How much does Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Istanbul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Istanbul is not rushed.

Is Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 22 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Istanbul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour?

    +

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Istanbul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Istanbul and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full-Day Istanbul Old City Walking Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Istanbul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Istanbul?

    +

On Outty we rank every Istanbul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Istanbul 1, 2 or 3-Day Private Guided Istanbul Tour, Istanbul Luxury Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Asian Side Stop, ISTANBUL BEST: Iconic Landmarks Full Day PRIVATE Guided City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Istanbul?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Istanbul?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
