    The timing was a little...

The timing was a little different than what was advertised. You had to pay to use restrooms. But all in all we had an enjoyable experience.

Amazing day of snorkelling and beach activities

We had an amazing day on our Snorkel & Beach day with Inside Tours. Our guide Josue along with all the staff were very professional and gave us a great day while our cruise was in Puntarenas for the day. On the 40 minute boat ride we stopped to see dolphins and an island inhabited by spider monkeys. What a treat!! The fish we got to see while snorkelling were incredible. So many colourful species. After snorkelling we were taken to a beautiful beach where we spent several hours enjoying the beautiful weather. Our trip included a delicious lunch of chicken, rice and fresh salad. They also had a beach bar where we enjoyed the best Pina Colada I’ve ever had.

    Inside Tours was great

Overall, this was great. The company was great and their guides were great (Percy was excellent)! This is no knock on them but we felt the full day was too long to be on that beach. I wouldn't recommend doing the hike on the island. It's $7 each and you get one good view from above, but overall I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Excellent excursion beats the Cruise ship prices end up at the same spot.

It was difficult to find the location. We walked off our Cruise port to the address but their was no signage that identified the name. Eventually a motorcycle drove up and waved to us. He opened the large metal gate and we asked if this was the place for the tour and he said yes. The Tour was on a fast boat with about 20 people signed up. We did snorkeling by a small island, water was not that clear since it was early November. On turtle island we had lunch went in the water relaxed on the lounge chairs and saw wild pigs. The individuals on the tour from the Princess Cruise where on turtle island and we spoke to some of them and they said their boat went really slow. The boat ride back was bumpy, we did see Alligators in the water close to the dock where we exited the boat.

Many cattle boats jam onto the beach of this small island

To start, we were told to be at a set of GPS coordinates at 8am. We stayed at the nearby Hotel Cayuga. If you are driving here the day prior to your tour, this is a nice place to stay. They have a locked garage to store your car while you are on the tour and it's a 6 minute walk from the dock. We arrived at the coordinates, and there was a locked gate. We were hanging out, looking for a business. There was no sign. Finally a local came by and said 'This is the place you are looking for' and he pulled a string on the gate and unlocked it. We walked to the back of the building and there were some boats and a couple workers getting ready for the tour. About a half hour later, a bus showed up from a cruise ship with all of the other people in our tour. We rode about 45 minutes in the boat to the island. They told us if we wanted to go snorkeling, stay on the boat. A few people got off and went up the beach. The rest of us were taken to a small rock sticking out of the ocean where 5 other boats full of snorkelers were anchored. Everyone jumped in the water and were thrashing about. It appeared many people have never snorkeled before and I got kicked 3 times. The small rock that everyone was snorkeling around was about 60 feet long and 20 feet across. There were surprisingly many fish, but the water was pretty murky. Water was warm, about 84 F. After about 45 minutes, we got back on the boat and returned to the beach. There is plenty of shade to stand in, if you want to sit in a beach lounger, you have to pay $11 USD. If you want to use the bathroom, you have to pay $1. If you want to take a nature hike, you have to pay more for that too. There is a small gift shop, and the people there are very nice. Our tour included lunch which was fantastic. The only complaint was the size of the drink cups, they were about the size of a shot glass. they had Ice Tea which was very good and cold water, but the small cup meant you had to stand by the dispenser and drink and drink and drink. It was pretty warm when we went and those people who didn't pay for a beach chair mostly stood in the water. It gets boring after lunch because there is nothing to do but stand in the water. The nature hike took about 20 minutes and includes a paper guide that points out different plants. I was actually glad to leave. There were so many people, and we were here in the off season. Each tour boat had it's own tables for eating lunch. You can sit at the tables for free!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puntarenas.

How much does From Puntarenas: Turtle Island Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puntarenas usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does From Puntarenas: Turtle Island Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puntarenas is not rushed.

Is From Puntarenas: Turtle Island Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 78 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puntarenas, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule From Puntarenas: Turtle Island Day Tour?

How far in advance should I book From Puntarenas: Turtle Island Day Tour?

    +

Around 27 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

What are the best things to do in Puntarenas?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puntarenas?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puntarenas?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
